If you buy a £40 scart lead the only thing you will effect is your bank balance
5-10 pounds is more than enough for the gold plate ones.............

Anymore spent on a lead and thats a waste of money or keeping up with the Jones's

I agree, I get my leads in the pound shop and never had a problem with them, is the picture quality that much better on expensive leads??

Yes, although it depends on the rest of your kit being up to the job too. Some very cheap cables may not be fully wired, either (e.g. they won't be able to cope with RGB out).

The other issue I've read about with "pound shop" type leads is build quality, i.e. it's not great. I read one report that someone tried to remove their cheapo scart lead from their dvd player and it basically fell to bits in their hands and left bits of plug irretrievably stuck in the socket. They had to scrap the dvd player in question (it was only a supermarket one) and buy a new one.

Have you thought of getting a component lead? if you tv etc has the connections at the rear that would give you the best picture, they look like phono connections and they are coloured red, blue & green. Your Sky+ and your Tv should have them not sure about your home cinema. Component only carries the picture and the sound would come through your home cinema, then to get sound out of you Sky+ box you will need 2 "red&black audio leads" or anoptical lead. Try https://www.lektropacks.co.uk they have a good range of cables. Hope that not to much onfo  .

if you have spent 2 grand on a tv, 1 grand on a stereo system wouldnt you want to see and hear them to their full potential?

30 or 40 quid may seem ridiculous to some ( and me, i spent £12.99 on a good un) butmy tv is only a 600 quid thing. my surround system was no more than 300 quid.

the better the quality and construction and materials, the 'purer' the sound and picture quality will be.

most of us wont notice too much difference on a normal crt tv between a 10 quid scart and a 40 quid scart but when you have a large screen tv it does make a difference

Hmmm, a vexatious subject it seems!

I’d avoid the absolute cheapies. The mid range leads described above should be good enough for the vast majority of us.

As to how much you actually spend, it all depends on-

    1) The quality of equipment you own

2)Your expectations and your ability to critically evaluate image quality.

    3)Your eyesight.

If you read WSR, Know what the ISF is, and are concerned about CUE, then get the best leads you can afford.

Otherwise, if your choice of TV was based upon which was the best looking one in Dixons then I wouldn’t worry too much…….. ;)

Yes we noticed a big differance and that was replacing the basic scart hubby bought from currys for £15;)

    How Dan Dare you!

Too many TLA's (Three letter Achronyms)

Does the West Somerset Railway know about Scart leads then.

I wonder how many people spend a fortune on scart leads then negate the advantage by using the Composite Video signal.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Number 2: - That would be telling. We want information. Information. Information.

Number 6: -You won’t get it.

Number 2:- By hook or by crook we will.

Any my apologies to everybody else for taking this completely off topic! :o
