I think stardrop's monkeys are extremely professional looking and if she can find a market that will pay £25 to £35 then good luck to her.

For my own monkeys - they are hand stitched and wonky and almost certainly do not conform to any safety standards, I just enjoy doing them and giving them away - I would feel uncomfortable asking for anything except cost of materials if someone asked about them. When I'm bored of them I stop doing them and go onto something else enjoyable.

The reason craft prices are so low in this country (I believe) is that we do not appreciate hand made products and for the few that do, there is the choice of getting them so much cheaper if they are made abroad and shipped over here.

Both points are about the market and what people are willing to pay so don't feel embarrassed if you are selling your monkeys for £50 and don't feel embarrassed to say you wouldn't buy them for £15 - that's what demand is all about :)

I will say again (being a bit of a capitalist at heart) well done stardrops and also that your monkeys are gorgeous.

  • Hello! I would love to make a camo sock monkey for a army hamper i am making for my 6 yr old daughter.

I may also make one each for my other children.

I have got stuffing, buttons and thread and am off to buy socks tomorrow.

Any tips on what length or brands / designs of socks to buy? I am not very good with sewing so any tips, hints do's or donts would be gratefully received.

i think its fab for your first go you shoudl have seen my first one he was terrible lol :j:T

if it helps i pin on the arms and ears etc first and also pin the mouth in place so i can move it all around till i'm happy with it i normally start with the ears and place then just under where the toe bit starts then go from there but its whatever works for you, I could never get the stitching on the ears right so i dont bother even trying now as i just messed it up everytime i draw round an egg cup and then sew following the lines this hopefully makes them both the same size and shape
  • Thanks angelkay for the tips will try again tomorrow... I love your baby sock monkeys!
