is there any other company that does similiar finance deals?
  • Hi, I wrote a big reply to this but it "disappeared" so I now only write a short one (it's bed time!!)

Fitted a kit & util myself and paid the following:-

    Appliances (induction hob, D/oven, combo M/W, D/W, F/F, 2 x Franke granite sinks/taps) all top of range e.g. Neff , DeDetrich, AEG. £3500.

17 units (2xtall) 18mm top/bottom/sides/back carcase with Solid Oak doors, all soft close doors/draws. £3100.

Granite worktops (2 short + 2 long) most expensive black with bronze sparkley bits, custom made & fitted. £3700.

2 x Solid Oak worktops 4M x 650mm x 40mm used as back panels (for breakfast bar). £300 for both.

    8Xhidden slimline strip lights £150

Top quality Travertine floor tiles 20 sq/m £400

GET Ultimate screwless flat plate sockets & switches £250 (could have had white plastic for about £40 but these look great in pearl silver)

All the above was sourced from the internet (Google usually) and I am happy to recommend all the suppliers.

So - is MFI pricey? I looked at their gear and was very unimpressed with their price/quality ratio.

    Hope this helps!

    Good God!

Don't buy your appliances from MFI.. If you like them all that much then have a look at www.pricerunner.co.uk - you can type in the model number and it will compare prices for you.

And then the units - well, is it the Kelmscott? It sounds pretty pricey for 11 unis!! I'd expect them to knock it down to about half that :o Never take the price they give you, ask them for their best price and when they ask your budget, you have to go low. Apart from the appliances being more expensive, they actually have a negative impact on the best price you can get for your kitchen because of the profit margins they work to. There's lots of margin on the units, not so on appliances. If you do need to buy appliances from MFI then buy them in a separate order :)

We've ordered so many MFI kitchens and we've only ever paid a little over half the 'proper' quote.

And find your own kitchen fitter!! It will save you so much money!

Also worktops you will always find much, much cheaper elsewhere so if you like the units, just order those.

  • Just a word of caution about Pricerunner and the other comparison sites, they show sponsored results and don't always give the lowest prices.

I researched the appliances that I wanted, did web searches for the part numbers then filled in a spreadsheet with all the suppliers I looked at with the prices of the appliances (this could have gone on forever but gets boring so set a limit!) The spreadsheet was use as bargaining power to get the prices down even further.

11 units for £11,000 sounds like a crazy price. Which one's is it? On the appliances you should be pushing them down on the prices - again it all depends on exactly which makes/models, but MFI is unlikely to be the cheapest. Find the best prices on Google (shopping section) then get them to do a price match.

I've just done a 13 unit (mid range type, not the takeaway ones) deal from wickes for £2,200 with a full price match on the appliances against the best internet prices.

Its a similar kitchen to this

I been having sleepless nights cant decide what to do!

We are going on Saturday to get quotes from a few other places. We will end up paying 7-8k if we do go somewhere else I doubt saving much on the appliances as we need all of them fitted with the kitchen. The only positive is i am happy with the finance package they are offering.

My budget was only 5k think we need to get realistic!

Your appliances aren't horrendously overpriced (although it does depend on what makes they are), but the units look like a crazy price. Since you're not certain that you want to go ahead, my advice would be to cancel now whilst you can. Then spend some time looking round at other kitchens. And if it turns out that the MFI one is right for you, go back and start negotiating on the price. The finance deal will still be available, even though the salesperson will probably tell you it's a once only offer. MFI are in desperate need of the money right now, so they'll do anything they can to get a deal with you.

No, £5k could be quite realistic. MFI kitchens aren't up to much in terms of quality in my opinion anyway, so you can get as good or better quality elsewhere including appliances for less than £5k.
  • Hi

We have been getting quotes for our kitchen to be riped out and replaced. Ours is about 12 units (including a tall larder & Int F/F housing) Started at Kitchens Direct (7-8K), Then another company called Dalmation who came in at £5500. We then went to BnQ who quoted £5000 (like everyone else the install was more) They now are offering 1/2 price on install and it's now coming in at £3500 and this includes more work than the original quote like plastering the walls & tiling splashback area and floor. From the number of units you can imagine our kitchen is reasonably small. Plastering area 12sq & tiling 8 or 9sq approx.

I think with this price, we will go with BnQ, probably is silly to think this, but if anything goes wrong I think BnQ more reliable at getting fixed??!

    :)

Our Wickes kitchen originally came to £5,849.00 but after sale discount and half price savings on fridge/freezer & washing machine plus discount on oven & hob the final price was £3,903.00:j plus a 5 year guarantee certificate plus 1 years interest free credit. We're very impressed with the quality of the kitchen etc., and very pleased we chose Wickes.
