so you think 2 x 512mb or 2 x 256 mbcheesy.mike wrote: »You are best using a matched pair. Throw away what you have and add the new memory.0 -
Might as well go for the most you can afford as memory prices are so low compared with when you bought the laptop. If you are running XP then it will run much better with 1GB. 2GB over 1GB won't be much of an improvement on such an old machine.so you think 2 x 512mb or 2 x 256 mb0 -
checked the laptop user guide and its only upgradeable to 1 GB of DDR333 using two soDIMM modules,as it already has 256mb,can i remove the 256mb and insert the 1GB or will i have to make do with the 256 and 512mb,also will the above product be compatable with my acer 5000 series.
Ignore the matched pair advice. Won't make any difference.
What is interesting is your user guides instruction. Every source that I can find indicates that 2GB RAM is the maximum. In addition, the laptop comes with 512MB as standard(2 x 256MB).
What can you see when you press the Flying Windows key together with the Pause Break key?
I'll take a look at the Use Guide myself.0 -
I did this it says XP HE,version 2,792mhz,192mb of RAM.On the label on the face of the laptop,60GB,256MB DDRIgnore the matched pair advice. Won't make any difference.

According to the User Guide, it is 1GB;

Though, strangely, they include 1 GB RAM of SoDimm memory amongst Options and Accessories.
Perhaps the 1GB they refer to is a kit.
Either way, adding a single 512MB will bring a noticeable improvement. 2 X 512MB better still if you like to multitask/have a lot of windows open.0 -
i will go for the two 512mb,just one more question will the 256mb just pull out and the 2 new ones slot straight in.According to the User Guide, it is 1GB;
