  • Hi,

    I'm hoping somebody can help?

My wife and I recently underwent a credit check through the letting agent when we moved from one rented property to another.

My check came back as a 'fail' as I have recently gone through bankruptcy, however - we were told that my wife's check also failed due to her association with me (by marriage).

We do not have any joint accounts or bills and we've only been married 3 months. Is this right? This article suggested that this shouldn't happen. Is there a way we can find out for sure?

    Many thanks in advance

You can only be associated by accounts. i reckon the letting company wouldn'thave failed her. i think that because you have jointly applied to let the property you both had to pass. check your £2 reports with experian, equifax and callcredit. if you have NEVER had joint accounts then there should be no associate links to your wife.
  • 6 years ago I was struggling making payments on my debt. I sought advice from CAB who wrote to my Creditors and agreed payments plans. All bar one agreed which was my loan with HSBC, they would not accept a reduced amount and so I had to wait for it to be defaulted. So for nearly 12 months I had to put up with the numerous phone calls & threatening letters until the debt was sold off. Once this happened I set up a payment plan which I have stuck to without fail. I have cleared the other debts of that time and am now trying to rebuild my credit.

I have checked my file and it shows the default but no record of my payments for the last 5 years? How long will this default be on record? Come the 6th yr since default will it go or is it 6 years from settlement? I have also got 2 credit cards for people like myself so I can rebuild a credit history so spend very little on them..

My partner and I are wanting to get a mortgage in the next yr or so but I'm worried my history is going to have a massive negative impact?
  • I have a CCJ which will 'drop off' my credit file in February 2012. The company that took me to Court no longer exists and I have heard nothing further on this account for nearly 6 years. No payments have ever been made.

I am now receiving threatening calls and letters from a DCA who say they have bought the debt and I must pay it. They too have entered this on my credit files as a seperate debt to the CCJ and do not believe me when I tell them this is subject to a CCJ.

Having sought advice previously from another forum I am lead to believe:

a: A Country Court Judgement cannot be sold on like a normal debt but must go back to Court for a change of 'owner'. This, I am told would he unlikely to succeed this far down the line.

b: Only one entry for each debt is allowed per credit file so this second entry should be removed.

Does anyone have any advice please.

Thinking of taking advantage of the Co-Ops deal £200 deal when you switch bank accounts. Any ideas on how this will affect my credit score?
I've been with the same bank for 10years, never missed a payment on any loan / credit card and current account never been in overdraft.

    Cheers
  • Having a bit of a nightmare with my credit record with Experian. There are a few entries for different dates for an address on a road that I lived in later but not at that house number. I believe I viewed the property via an agency at one stage. The record seems to come from Natwest. Not sure what it is for or about. Have advised Experian of this and they recommend checking the other credit agencies, have to to do that yet. Should I also contact Natwest? I have an account I rarely use with them, no irregularities on that account though.

Also I worked as a temporary for Reed Banking for Lloyds bank last year and they did a credit check which was ok. When I got the copy from Experian there was about 7 check refs there all from Reed. Experian contacted them and asked them to remove some but they won't. Does anyone know if that amount of entries are normal for a bank working ref? Not sure if I am asking Reed to clear something that is a normal result of a check to work in a bank. Experian say I now have to contact Reed myself.

Can my dormant Natwest account affect credit applications? I haven't yet updated the address and the statements are being returned to the bank. Also have a PAYG Orange mobile with wrong address?

Just turned down for Tesco credit card but the checker on this site says Im a good bet although doesn't ask about things like the above.

I also have a student loan in repayment, would that affect?

Sorry for all the questions. I feel like I don't know where to start. Have ME and finding this all too much but need to reduce credit card interest.

    Thanks
  • Newbie here on the forum, but longtime user of the website. After doing a forum search I haven't come up with a solution to my particular problem. Advice would be really appreciated, whether it's pointing me toward where this topic has been discussed already (my search skills may be lacking) or with a new response.

I'm trying to apply for a new credit card for balance transferring, but when I go through the look-up process for my previous address (I've been at my current address for 2 1/2 years) the system doesn't pull up my address when I input my post code. I've tried both Sainsbury's and MBNA, but didn't go through with the applications because I didn't want to fudge it and end up with a rejection. I've checked the Royal Mail site and when I put in the postcode it pulls up the address, so I don't think it's the Royal Mail that's the problem. Who else would supply addresses to the credit card companies?

I thought my problems getting a card a year ago had to do with not being on the electoral roll (I'm American) but it seems from my Experian report that it was the fact they couldn't find my manually entered previous address that was the problem. I've had my current credit card with Barclays for 10 years and haven't missed a payment in several years. In fact, they keep increasing my credit limit so I guess they think I'm okay!

I would really love some help with this as seeing the interest charge each month makes me feel a bit sick. I'm paying more than minimum payments and not charging anything new, but it's going to take ages to pay off at this rate and I really want to put the great advice on the website and forum to work.

    Hi all,

My credit rating is OK/fair. My bank accounts are all in my Mums address and have been for many years, whilst I live at another where I am also on the electoral roll.

As I am not on the electoral roll at the address where my bank accounts are registered, the credit rating system marks me down.
So the Q is: If I finally move everything to the address where I actually live, will that allow me to fair better or worse as I have no credit history at that address, even though I am on the electoral roll there?

I have debt on 3 credit cards and am only paying off the interest. I want to move the debt to 1 or 2 new cards at 0% or fixed rate for payback, etc.

    Many thanks in advance.
  • I recently wrote to the credit card companies I have debts with to see if I could get the repayments lowered and the interest froze and was basically told I could but they would be putting a default notice on my credit rating. Can they do this if I continue to pay the minimum amounts asked and not the reduced amounts I have asked for?

If you pay the minimum payments you can't be defaulted. problem is your not getting anywhere. I take it you've tried to get a 0% credit card?
