  • Hi just wondering if someone can answer a question. I have a default on my credit report which was for a loan from alliance and leicester but just checked my credit file and it is now showing the loan is from santander. I know alliance and leicester are now apart of santander but was just wondering if this default could be removed as I didnt take out the loan with santander but with alliance and leicester. Sorry if it is a bit long winded.

Long question - short answer - no ;)

Santander bought the company and all it's debtors.

  • Hi guys, looking at ways to improve my credit rating, at the min I have 2 defaults one with cap one which is satisfied and the other with egg which has a balance of £1500. Other two entries are my bank account which is 100% satisfactory and my mobile contract which is squeaky clean also with no missed payments.

Anyone any tips to improve my report? Was considering applying for a vanquis card to build a bit more positive history as I havent applied for credit in years apart from my mobile contract six months ago.

    Thanks

Your default as you know will drop off after 6 years, but in the mean time think you may struggle to get any decent card until your default drops off,by all means try vanquis as think this will be your best bet to get you credit history therefore help you with future applications..
When did you default on the cap1 account....

So you have a good 3 years b4 you can apply for the major lenders out there,i think TBH mate vanquis will be your best bet, apply for them if you get accepted make sure you keep your payments up to date for the next couple of years get some sort of history with them, then apply for more mainstream cards when your default fall off, warn you though vanquis can be very high on the old interest its been known some people on here are being charged 59.9% apr,so spend wisely....

Cheers, its very depressing, I had left money with a family member when I emmigrated to New Zealand in 2006, promised to put in my account to cover all my payments but decided to take the money instead and spend it, thats how these both defaulted - stupidly being on the other side of the world and veieve at the time I didnt even think to check my bank to make sure he had put it in. Already suffered for years with it and cant even think about a mortgage, recently moved house so im gonna wait until my files updated with being on the electoral roll before applying to vanquis.
  • Hi - I have quite a big credit file with lots of defaults on it.

Basically I had quite a few outstanding debts and I left the country for the last 4 years and just got back about 6 months ago. So I left all the bills and debts behind. On my credit file they are all shown as defaults.

Is there anything I can do to start to help rectify this? I have a basic bank account with Nationwide, recently applied for a contract mobile phone and was refused and about 2 months ago applied for a current account with RBS and was accepted then 2 days after the acceptance sent a letter closing the account.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
