    Hi a little help required,

I'm very new to credit, not long had my current account, only this month got accepted for a vanquis card, i've got a few utilities in my name & a sim only contract. I've become obsessed with improving my credit rating.

I've recently made lots of searches on my name in order to set up new necessary utilities due to moving, along with bt, virgin internet & applying for the card. I've also made applications to aqua who said no & capital one who just haven't replied.

The reason for my haste is my wish to be buy a house hopefully next year sometime & with relatively no credit rating it's a long shot, but I don't want to further hamper my chances by being impatient. Please advise me on how I can continue to help my chances & what time frame would you suggest I take on more credit to prove I can handle it. I have no ccjs, no late payments & a £250 card limit.

    Thanks

How long have you had your vanquis card mate if you have had this a few months might be worth trying.sygma silvermastercard
This company checks equifax so might be worth while checking that first before you apply..
  • Has anyone bought the £1 cinema tickets?? and have they received them yet please

I'm 22 and, after being turned down for a mobile phone contract with Orange last week, I decided to get a credit check. I thought I'd be fine - I've gone overdrawn a few times but always by tiny amounts and I've always contacted the bank. I have no credit cards, just one store card in 2006 that I payed off and in short, the 'credit agreements' section of my file is green. But it turns out I didn't cancel the water account in my last student house and, when I moved out, obviously I didn't get any of the notifications telling me I owed money. It's been on my file since september last year and although I have spoken to Yorkshire Water and will be paying the outstanding amount asap, I'm really worried about what this means for my finances. I know CCJs stick around for six years - what credit exactly is this going to prevent me from getting? Is a mobile phone contract just the tip of the iceberg?! I'm hoping to move into a new house in the next few months, will this create problems? At the moment it feels like this is the worst thing I could have on my file, is there ANY WAY I can start to improve my credit score? I would really like some advice (and hopefully some reassurance that the end is not nigh) as I feel utterly clueless at the moment. Thanks!

I picked up on a little news item today:
Vanquis turned down 83% if their credit card applications in the last year.
Not sure if this is because they get lots of "sub prime" applications or because they are now very picky?

Apologies if this has been asked before .........
I checked my credit filw with experian and all looked ok till i came across a Default on a loan taken out with Black Horse in 2001 , I do not dispute the amount owed , £5000 + , but the default date is shown a 2010 !!
As the amount was virtually defaulted from the begginning of the loan , due to a prison sentence , how can they show a default date as 9 years later ? and i know they have sold the debt on to Lowell Finance !
Help please about the default date , can i get it removed ? can i place a correction regarding the circumstances ?
Regards in advance for any info

The load must be past the 6 years of statute of limitations (England & Wales) by now or have you been acknowledging it or is it secured against land?

Hi Jerry and welcome to MSE, a credit card has many benefits including section 75 consumer protection for transaction over £100. It can also help you in an emergency if you lose cash or bank debit card fails.
