I have just received my credit report from experian this morning. my previous pathetic bank withdrew my current account last year due to the fact they were not getting there own way with a complaint I had with them. Due to this I could do with a new current account in the UK. I am using my Australian Bank account but it isn't easy getting money into it, and costs a fortune to withdraw in the UK.
I have been to Nationwide and they have refused me, but I have noticed I took out some store/credit cards out and it looks like this may be the problem. It is saying that the account was settled satisfactorily but there were a few late payments. Could this be the reason why I can't get an account? If so how can I remove it?
I am thinking about going down the line that I was forced to take them out, which in effect would be the case. I know when I took by B*****ycard (sorry that word to be is worse than most swearwords to me) when I was in branch ordering a new card as I lost my old one whilst out canoeing the personal banker wouldn't let me go without getting a Barclaycard which I mistakenly used and missed a couple of payments, which was precisely why I didn't want a credit card. Burtons also got me to sign up for a store card, again using persuasive techniques where I could not say no to. Would this work?
It does say on all of these that they were settled satisfactorily, so I am unsure if this will be causing a problem.
Any help would be greatly received.0 -
You do not have a leg to stand on, if you were over the age of 18 then you knew what you were doing.
You cannot blame the lenders in this instance, it is user error. Give it 12 months from late payment markers and you'll not hear too much about it as most lenders don't take this into too much consideration unless it was a proven history of bad payments.2010 - year of the troll

Quite.
Nationwide are known to be particularly strict anyway.
My OH has been approved for a Halifax Reward account with one outstanding default (2 1/2 years old) and a history of missed payments (all 3+ years old) without a problem. Might be worth a shot; natwest / RBS aren't that strict either.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Natwest RBS have AVU mate - my nemesis! They are not strict to get accepted but when you send forms in then they become strict! I hate em cos i always get online accepted, but declined by avu at a later date!

I am thinking about Santander at the moment as from what I have seen they don't charge for overseas withdrawals, which considering I spend most of the time away this would be a good thing. Then I can possibly stop paying ANZ $11 a month and just reduce it to a none visa account of $5 a month.
Also the credit cards and store cards were taken out over five years ago.
Many thanks for you comments.0 -
I set up dmp with cccs on 1st December 2009.
Husband and I had joint mortgage which was paid off on December 2009. This was the only joint finance we had. He recently tried to open up savings account with Barclays and was rejected because of credit search. Presumably this is because of my dmp. (He doesn't know that I've set up dmp)
I've read on this site that he can write to credit agencies asking for notice of disassociation. Would this mean his credit score would return to good?
Any advice gratefully accepted

Sorry - it means Application Verification Unit, they basically deal with all applications that are either referred or after further credit ref checks.....

That's got nout to do with scoring mate, it's because the AVU have spotted discrepancies between existing and previous applications to the RBS group.
My OH has the exact same problem and after doing a little digging on the phone to them it transpires that due to the discrepancies he needs to hold off five years before applying to them again.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
