Well you could always just stop making calls from your landline, that would be the same thing. Mind you I'm single so it would be easy for me, might not be so easy with a family.

Back in the good old days they used to put your phone in the hall next to the front door. Cold drafty and not a comfortable place to spend any time. It sure cut down on the time you spent on the phone!

Just had a quick check, my cordless phones have a keypad lock feature. You can lock the numbers so you can't dial out. There's no code number to unlock it, but you do have to press half a dozen keys to unlock the keypad and make a call.

Not perfect, but having to press half a dozen keys just to unlock the phone might stop you using it and reaching for the mobile instead.

The phones were only cheap ones from ebay, £15 for three.

If you stay connected you still pay your quarterly line rental. If you don't want to pay any more than that just don't use it to make phone calls.

We have a landline and pay BT for the line rental. We have Virgin broadband which includes free weekend and evening calls. We use 18185 for any daytime calls which just cost 5p connection fee and 0p per minute - this goes on the Virgin bill. Therefore we pay nothing to BT except the line rental.

If you retain your BT landline (cost about £11 pm on direct debit) but sign up to Planettalk you will pay nothing extra but get your evening and weekend calls to local and national numbers free, plus rates cheaper than BT to international and mobile numbers. If you have many incoming calls those making them will have to pay mobile rates to call them if you get rid of your land line

You don't have to pay BT for your landline if you have Virgin... it's cable, you don't need the line set up.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

We can't get cable in our area, hence our line rental is to BT.
