Cheap Airport Parking: Stansted Airport hints, tips and local parking

This is the third different Stanstead parking service I have used. The staff are friendly, polite, reassuring and knowledgeable. The parking attendants make you feel looked after, and seem to know more about the timing and logistics of your trip and flights than you do. There is no feeling of being part of a constant conveyor belt of customers as with other parking services, and no queueing at desks with endless paperwork. Speedy three minutes to the terminal, efficient, compact service. Thank you Orange Park & Ride Tel No 01279 6694270

I was looking for a cheaper option for car parking for Stansted as in the past i had got a bargain flight on Ryanair and parking had cost more than my flight! I used one of the online car park websites and found a very good bargain. I opted for one of the options and arranged to be met at the short stay carpark by a chauffeur. After calling the company to let them know i was just leaving the M11,all went well and it was very efficient. On my return from my break everything seemed to run smoothly and the car was brought to me very quickly and the chauffeur seemed in a hurry. Just after he left I noticed a large dent on my car. I complained to a member of the airport parking staff and they informed me that the company i used is one of many that operate from the internet and literally just park your car at the side of the road, or in the streets locally. I was furious to say the least. After taking my car to a local garage, as i wanted to make sure it was safe to drive, they informed me that the damage to my car was caused by a vehicle hitting it whilst my car was stationary and that this happens a lot locally with cars that are left by people using the airport, like myself who believe their vehicles are being held in a secure parking area, when in reality they are in laybys, and other illegal car parks. He also said that the local district council were hot on the heels of these car parks that operate without licenses and have even impounded the vehicles in the past and that there had been a number of instances where local residents had damaged vehicles that are parked outside their houses and left for the duration of peoples holidays. There were also issues with claiming on my insurance as i did not know where the damage had occurred. As you can imagine when i phoned the company i used they refused to recognise that i had even used them! The whole experience has left me extreamly stressed and i can assure you i will not be lining these fraudsters pockets again!0

nnoying that BAA were doing their £1.99 offer for just August (I thought they would have charged full price at this so called peak period with the kids being off) and offered the £1.99 per day at lighter times of the year.
Anyway, looking for suggestions for parking in october, two weeks (15th-31st october) works out £59 on the long stay budget BAA site, tried the private driveway parking sites which work out less, but when factoring the taxi to and from the airport works out about the same. Public transport is not an option as travelling 150 miles to get there and times of flights are very alte in the evening....all updated suggestions welcome0 -

1. Park in the village of Stansted Mountfitchet, lots of residential streets with no parking restrictions. But PLEASE be courteous and don't block peoples' driveways etc.
2.Jump on the train. The station is right in the middle of the village, and it's 5 minutes and just a couple of quid each way to Stansted.
3. Don't tell anyone it was me who told you.
I tried this out, it works but isn't very convenient for a number of reasons.
1) There's only one train an hour
2) The cost of the rail is 2.60 each way, so if there are a couple of you it starts to mount up.
3) If you leave the car for any long period of time, there's the possibility that there might be road resurfacing and your car might get towed without you knowing it.
4) There's the danger that it might get broken into and trashed without you knowing it. Once one window gets broken and isn't repaired it'll be a beacon for vandals...
5) If you do go back and find your car gone/vandalised its going to be a pain to do anything about it.
Nice idea in theory, but not so great in practice...0 -
Sugarboy, thanks for your recommendation. No more pub car parks and returning to bumps and sctratches! I found the guy in Takeley you rated so well - brilliant service, secure parking (offered for 6 cars but probably room for 20!) on a large private drive fenced and gated well back from the road. From arrival, transferring luggage and being driven in his car to check-in took 5 mins. Plus he checked return flight and collected us at after delays at 1am - as you said £5 a day - and transfers were free. Very friendly guy too.
I found him on website above (featured no 1 or 2 on the list I think) but you didn't give his contact details: he also operates under name of Stress Free Stansted Parking on 07771 611764.
Highly recommended.
I took this & previous advice on the guy in Takeley. On our return, 5 minutes after phoning him from the Passport Control queue, we were in his car (hand luggage only). Another 5 minutes we were in our car & 10 minutes later were heading south on the M11. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Could have still been waiting for the car park bus.....
Saved money too! :money:0 -
Just returned from a 10 day holiday, but car was in the BAA long stay for longer due to flight times so charged for 11 days.
Total cost £46.40 which beats the other prices and is convenient, no need to find obscure places and very close to airport.
You need to book in advance online to get the discounted prices.
BAA are not always this cheap, the discount does vary.
My policy is to always benchmark against their price.
Watch out for deals. Last summer got a deal at Hethrow from Meteor for Valet Parking cheaper than anything else I could find - £85 for 15 days.0 -

of course you neglect to add the inconvenience and downright cheek of parking outside someones property for up to 2 weeks , often on the pavement and over the end of peoples driveways , quite simply if you can afford a holiday pay the bloody parking charges or !!!!!! off !!0 -
Just got a brilliant
deal through BAA using one of Martins links for a 4 day break and by parking in the short term parking it's only costing just over 40 quid instead of 115!! It was a bit cheaper to park at some others including one for £31 (PAR parking Stansted) which said it was a 2-3 minute from the terminal but when you look at the site it looked like it was actually a good 10 15 minute drive away and given our early departure time I thought best to go for somewhere close to the terminal. Granted we have booked for the August bank holiday in March, but I think it goes to show there are bargains to be had by booking a long way ahead.
