Oh my - perhaps you should have gone to a fabric shop instead of b&q for that one!!

    Try here: http://www.candh.co.uk/product-Philip-Stamp-and-Co-Velcro-Stick-On-White-5m-0106139/
Yes exactly the same stuff for £11.99, mind you the masking tape was only £1.79- can anyone beat that?

  • I really started to look at saving energy and water in July.
    I'm now saving:
Electricity from 10KWh to 9.48KWh per day (5% saving). 50% of my total bill goes on keeping my fish tank going. No "normal bulbs" in the house and a new fridge would take 5 years to repay capital investment.

Gas from 14.38KWh to 9.01KWh per day (37% saving). Fitted boiler jacket, adjusted boiler so I use hot water and it's not topped up until the next day and use an engery saving shower head.

Water from 461 litres per day to 222 litres per day. (52% savings). Fixed dual flush loo, fitted ecocamel showerhead, fitted tapmagic inserts to all taps.

I can honestly say that I'm chuffed. If you were to visit my home you would never notice anything different and everything I fitted is "fit and forget"
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

I've tried to understand "tapmagic" Andy--could you explain their advantages in terms & 'non-plumbing techno-phobe who doesn't have DATA as a second language' will recognise please :D

  • Spraymagic - turns your normal tap into a shower pattern, uses around 50% less water. I have these fitted to sinks in toilets.

Tapmagic - The outside has a ring of holes which makes a shower pattern, in the middle it has one of those things found in squirty sauce bottles. When you turn the tap on slightly (to wash hands etc) the ring of water is sufficent. When you turn it more (to fill the sink) the middle bit opens and fills it without a restricting the flow. I have these fitted to my kitchen sink.

Once fitted you have to do nothing more.

Ah, I understand now. On first reading, this did not seem an at all appealing or hygienic idea.

Just done my i-measure readings -
    • £3.29 on gas
    • £8.28 on electricity
Gas usage remains pretty constant but electricity usage has gone up from £6.60 last week to £8.28- I am guessing that as now evenings are drawing in this will only increase due to lighting usage.

Club Rank MoneySaving Carbon Club 9/42
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (4 weeks ago):
    • £14.27 on gas
    • £30.12 on electricity

The gas prices have gone up but having dropped the time the hot water is on for, we are still using the same amount of money (prepay).

Managed to switch a fancy light with 4 x 50W GU10's to one 18W energy saving bulb (must get a light shade now though).

Also changed the 4x GU10's in the bathroom to megaman energy saving GU10's.

Still got some more lights to change over to e/s though.

Hoping to see a difference in the bill this month :)
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?
  • how do they sort out the carbon club rank, perhaps I am missing something? last week we spent £1.16 on gas and £4.44 on electric. Totals over 7 weeks: gas £8.92 electric £33.48

    my ranking is 40/44
