Are O2 telling me fibs?

Hi, I currently have 2 contract phones with O2. One of them passed it's 18 month contract date on 18 June and the other has until May next year until it reaches the 18 month point.

Basically, I have told O2 that I want to save money and axe the contract that is complete, keep the other until it reaches completion but, I want to PAC the number across from the one to be axed on to the phone Im keeping.

They say that there is no way I can do this - Is this correct?

That's not porting (which is from one network to another, not within the same network) so they can do whatever they feel like.

It's technically possible, but they don't have to legally offer it.

You *might* be able to port the number out to another mobile company and then back in again. If not then at least you'll have the mnumber you want safely stashed on a different company's PAYG network!
