I have had similar issues with file security on XP home. I'm in IT managment so used a commercial program called ERD commander, which basically boots an XP type shell and allows you to copy anything whether protected or not. There is a freeware program called PC inspector which may be of use to you (http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/download.htm?language=1) and allows copying of files across.0

*Note* most Linux CD's have a "Live CD" option.
It runs the OS from memory so you can access both your Vista Drive and your XP Drive and by-pass windows Security settings.
That would be your best bet to copy the info from the XP drive to Vista DriveLaters
