Give us the correct time :D

It is very peculiar to alter all the displayed times - something that happened at a certain time last week changes time retrospectively.
Perhaps as someone said, that doesn't matter - well, not here anyway.
There are other instances of databases acting like this. I once nearly missed a flight home from abroad as I'd saved the flight time in a PDA and didn't appreciate that the local time difference had adjusted the displayed appointment time as well. Paper is better!0 -
It might MSE users if I explain how times are stored in databases (or at least the standard way of doing it)
The time of posts is stored in the database as the number of microseconds since 1st Jan 1970 00:00:00 UTC (UTC being the equivalent of GMT). When it loads the page, it works out the current time in UTC on the server, and offsets depending on what timezone you have selected. This is how it is able to display the correct time when you are logged in depending on your timezone. As I don't think it is a feature of the database that recognises DST, this must be some clever code within the forum software.
When you log out, you are no longer using the timezone in your user profile, but that of the server including the timezone offset. It does indeed sound like the server is set up to GMT+1. If it is the server it is most likely outside the control of MSE, all they can do is put pressure on their hosts to change the server time as I did once when it was five hours out.
It is also possible for the time stored to also have a timezone offset included, but not knowing how vbulletin works, I don't know if it has this feature.0
