Am I to disbelieve these experts because they're stockbrokers and have a vested interest in talking up the market?
Not disbelieve automatically, no, but it pays to be aware that they tend to be optimistic rather than otherwise.
OH decided to sell most of his shares last August, after we talked about it. His stockbroker tried to put him off, saying it would be a mistake, market due to rise, etc. In fact, not selling would have been a huge mistake!
My parents sold Barclays shares in July 2007 to buy my mother's new car. They were also told it was a mistake, banking sector strong, etc etc. My Dad amuses himself by working out how much more they would've lost keeping the shares than the depriciation on a new car!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

No. Next question?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I sold my HBOS & AL. shares at around the 800p mark and paid the money onto my mortgage. Really glad I did as these dropped like a stone.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)
