What can you build on half an acre?

I have inherited a house on a half acre plot, the plot has planning permission for another house to be built on the land (as well as the existing house).
An estate agent came round to value the house and said that if planning permission was given then is usually an indication that it would be given for other projects.
The house is in a really nice area and I just wondered, if the lot was pulled down, what could be built there. Logistically.
The plot is approx 50m by 45m and is on a corner.

Normally you can't go higher than the exsiting and surrounding properties, so no high rise tower blocks and sometimes bungalows needed.
Ask your local building control department for limitations.
IMO I find it sad that any property with land has another house built in its grounds. I know the market is !!!!!! at the mo but it would be lovely to see a large house with large garden sold as a family home rather than potential building site.0 -
Westbury homes would get a dozen on there no problem.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

Same here...we have had 10 houses (2 detached, 4 terraced, 2 semis) 17 apartments (two-story high block+3 in 3 story block) all with parking amazingly enough, but no proper gardens except the two detached, and these are big enough for a small rabbit cage and a wheelie bin.
All this was built on a plot just a shade over half an acre. It used to be part of a car repair shop where he used to park up cars waiting for repair. All us locals are stunned that the PP was granted, despite our objections...so you could start your own mini village. Be aware tho that the development I'm referring to has sold less than half the properties since it was finished in January.
Edit; sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant there, didn't it?? :eek:0 -
At 30 dwellings per hectare, you could get 6 into half an acre.0
