  • The CEBR says the lack of new homes in England is one of the key factors that will fuel the house price recovery.

Erm, wasn't this the crux of the argument over the last five years that house prices wouldn't drop?

Now they're dropping like a stone, and the same argument is being used to tell us "ah, but they suddenly won't, they're going to boom (again) you know".

The only reason house prices got so mad was sentiment (great investment/only go up/if you don't buy now they'll be dearer next month) combined with banks (believing the same rubbish) lending huge amounts.

Now that sentiment has not only gone, but it's in reverse, and the banks aint lending no more...

It's a prediction by an agency that also predicted last year that house prices would be up by 1.5% this year.

So they are clearly to be trusted..... Only down 8.1% so far (up to August). :rotfl:

If we could all predict the future we would but a lot of papers today have carried this story, so maybe it might just be right.

Yeah, probably one day after carrying a story about 40% drops forecast by someone else.

The newspapers are there to make you buy them, that's it. They will say anything they can to pull you in. The headline looks good though, expect a lot lot more of this as the crash continues, Prices up massively (soon!), Prices down massively........ erm, now.

Good thing I'm an engineer and not a journalist then!! :rotfl:

Not sure how I got an A* at English Language! They must've got easier... But I have grasped the difference between "their", "there", and "they're".

Good thing I'm not an engineer then...........................otherwise I'd be like you living in a block of flats worried I have social housing neighbours moving in..........and working out how to save a few pennies by only selecting certain toppings on my 'buy one get one free' pizza.

Actually I too have an A* at English Language - but that didn't help me buy my beautiful 4-bed house.:D

Sounds to me that it's you who can't grasp things..........................if you could you'd be on a decent salary: or are you just mean?????:p

pickledpink, I've rarely read such pathetic comments on here. I find your comments really out of order, particularly for a money saving forum.

PP, if you own your nice 4 bed house in the greenbelt with no mortgage, why do you want house prices to go up? Does it make you better off?

Bottom line, nobody likes a bragger. Nobody likes someone that goes on and on about how much they rock, what kind of turbo their car has, and how green their grass is. They usually turn out to be losers.

    someone very rich wrote this.......
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Mmm I love pizza, do you have to be in social housing then, to get BOGOF offers with reduced toppings?

i dont care what the housing market does just as long as it sorts its self out one way or another until then i have no idea what houses are worth and people wont want to sell....
at least if we wait till 2010 we may get just the good estate agents left (HOPEFULLY)
btw pickledpink could you give me some money and i will worship you like a god?
The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.
