La Redoute make me sooo angry.

Been a good customer for a number of years. I am always up to date with payments and never default, in fact, I pay the balance off in full.

Last week, I payed my balance using the online account facility. Saturday I received a letter from them briefly saying there had been a problem processing my payment. When I telephoned them, turns out the bank had not honoured the payment thus La Redoute had slapped on a £12 charge. I advised them that I'd check with the credit card company as to why the payment had been declined; credit card company told me that I hadn't inputted the correct expiry date when I had payed the catalouge.

I phoned La Redoute back with this info, and they refused to waiver the £12 charge. I propsed that I had been a valuable, reliable customer, who had made this one mistake, but they wouldn't budge.

I have since requested that they close my account. I think it's terrible that on this occassion they wouldn't waiver their charges. Didn't even realise that they couldccharge such a high fee.

Anyone else had the same problem with catalouges?

1st 'late' payment offence??? HARSH. maybe the threat of closing will make them backtrack. if not, close and move on. tis their loss!

    my sentiments exactly.

Wasn't a late payment, I'd just typed the incorrect expiry date, in fact it was the year that was wrong.

It was you own error, and the charges would have been set out in the terms and conditions. You could ask to speak to a supervisor ,finally setting out that you will close your account down if they don't reduce the charges by half.

I too thought this was a bit harsh if it really is the first time you've not paid on time.

Maybe as you always pay your balance in full, they feel that they're not making enough money from you in interest payments.

If they won't reconsider this charge, I'd definitely close the account.

Despite the error being your own, I think a £12 fine is a bit harsh, given your immaculate track record and the fact that you're a good customer.

I'd be writing a letter to their headquarters telling them that due to the way they treat their loyal customers over a small mistake, then you no longer wish to shop with them, and shall take your custom elsewhere.

Perhaps even point out that during a credit crunch, they should be upping their customer service to encourage customer spending, not chasing their customers away!

Ask them if a £12 is really worth more than a lifetime of spending?!

If they have any sense, they'll re-credit the £12 and perhaps even throw in a free voucher...

I got fined about £30 by Natwest once for going over my overdraft (my fault, I overlooked a cheque that I wrote 8 months previously that didn't get cashed until much later!). I went to see my branch manager and pointed out I was a good customer, had never had a bank charge before, paid plenty of money into the account, and would be a good future earner. They apologised, revoked the fine, and I still bank with them!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I stopped using la redoute 18 months ago for similar reasons.

Except with me nothing was inputted wrong, just for some reason if I tried to pay online it was always rejected (correct details and had sufficient funds). I got charged £12 and phoned them and they told me my payment had been declined and to phone my bank (who told me they had no record of a transaction)
La redoute refused to budge and told me it was my banks fault (barclays, used visa debit to pay)
It happened again 2 months later so I paid the balance by cheque and have never ordered since.

Well funny you should mention it, this is not the first time I have had problems with La Redoute. On a number of occassions they have refused to honour valid discount codes which had even been sent to me via post. Usually happens when I've returned items and they've charged me full price on the replacement goods.
