touring caravan season fees

Hi

I would love to buy a caravan to get away at weekends. I looked at static caravans but doing the maths they are really too expensive for me.

Ive turned by thoughts to buying a towing caravan and wondered if its possible to get reasonable season site fees in scotland. Everywhere I have looked have been £1200 + considering the number of times we would use it that would work out too expensive. Does anyone know if its possible to get season site fees for around £600. As long as the site has good showers and is close to a wee village or town with a shop, and has a wee childrens play area we would consider most sites.

The other option is storing it somewhere and towing it for the weekend whenever we want to go away - does anyone have any advice about doing this ?

Many thanks in advance for any tips and advice

cheers
chris

I would have a look for caravan storeage in an area you want to visit. You may find it is cheaper to store the c'van and tow it to the site each time you visit. Some site in England do store the c'van for you at reduced cost. Two I know even pitch the c'van for you.

    Good luck,

    Hi Fortyfoot

Do you mean store the caravan close to a site we want to use then whenever we want to use the caravan pick up the caravan from storage and tow the short distance to the site ? i never thought of that and im sure it would be cheaper than season fees.

I hadnt realsied how expenisve season fees are , do you caravan yourself ?

    cheers

I live in Blairgowrie which is in Perthshire, Scotland - Ideally I would like a site an hour max from where we live so Perthshire, angus, fife, kinross-shire, stirlingshire, west lothian, etc... anywhere about an hour away.

You could also take a look over at www.ukcampsites.co.uk and have a look at site reviews in the area. Its a very good site for anything to do with camping/caravanning.

We used to store our caravan at a site in Devon, it cost about £350 a year, then you could either stay on that site (and pay normal nightly fees) or tour around the area. sorry this is at the wrong end of the country  but we found it by doing a search for storage online, you might find something in the area you want. Unfortunately our caravan got very old and had to be scrapped last year. I really miss it. Hope you find what you are looking for.

there is a lovely forest holidays site in aberfoyle - around an hour from you , with a farm 2 miles away which stores caravans .
As FF said it will probably work out cheaper , and then you will be more likely to tour with it -as you havn't paid for a seasonal pitch.

We are on a seasonal pitch near stirling which costs around £700 pa , but i don't feel as if it is great value as we like to tour with ours , so you are paying twice .
seasonal pitches are becomming harder and harder to find as more people take up caravanning, there is quite a waiting list at our site.

have you ever been to the scone site ? as we are thinking that might be one of our next visits

    hi

thanks for the advice - which site are you currently on ? £700 sounds about the right price for us

    cheers
