My local Home Bargains had Mega Malt Loaf (by Soreen) selling for around 75p when the package says that it costs £1. Bargain :).

    Any idea how soon?

Bishop Auckland Poundland opens 7th July according to the sign in the empty shop a few doors away. Last time I passed they were putting the tills in, shelves are up but no stock yet.

...and if Newton Aycliffe is getting a make over don't let the guy who did Bishop Auckland anywhere near it.
Have you seen the mess our Market Place is? He ordered live trees ripped out and put in mostly dead ones in and I've lost count of the number of times the paving has changed, each one more patchwork, cracked and lumpy than the last.
Rumor has it that he got moved sideways after messing up Darlington.

    OK, rant over.

You never know with the supposed re vamp of the town centre we may actually get some decent shops lol

One can but hope. I am sure Syd at Newton News mentioned HB were interested a while ago. Poundland definitely weren't interested when I emailed them, but Peterlee has Poundworld. Peterlee and Ferryhill both have B&M Bargains, though I've always preferred HB, the layout and merchandising is far more attractive.

So Darlo is getting something... hmm! Bit awkward to get to on foot though and non-driving customers would form a substantial part of the potential customer base, wouldn't you think?

Agree about it being in an awkward place if you don't drive. Because it's going to be a homestore though they like the big units out in retail parks, and as it will sell a lot of furniture then it's more geared towards people with cars, especially with it being near Morrisons and B&Q etc. I kept hoping that they'd take the old Woolworths in the high street over and open a regular store there, the one where I used to work was an old Woolies and their old stores seemed to suit B&M well but maybe the rent's too high? After moving from Stockton to Darlo I'm definitely feeling the loss of all the good bargain shops!
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

It's not so bad for me as I work in darlo and DD is at college there, so I can always send her shopping:D i also take my MIL shopping every week to Morrisons so it'll be handy for me to nip in there whilst she meanders around B & Q :p

Apart from that I'd never make a trip to Darlo shopping as it is the pits traffic wise and the parking is so expensive.

    I've been Money Tipped!
One of the new items in ours today was Hovis Wholemeal Bread Flour for 39p.

Sorry folks, can't give you anymore details as I only spotted it when I was in the queue, it was in the baskets as you walk into the store (I think most stores have the same lay out).

I wouldn't get anything else now. They are really good quality and thick.
