Was switching to BT the right choice?

Thanks to all who replied to my previous thread. But I am now wondering if i have jumped from the frying pan into the fire!
I ordered my new bt Option 1 service via their web site, which offered a free wireless hub. After completing the order I got a message saying I would recieve an email within 2 days, detailing my activation date, username and email address.
As I still had not received this today, I phoned BT. During the conversation, it was mentioned my new wired modem would arrive in the post. I pointed out that, according to their web site offer, I sould get a wireless hub...so I got transfered to another department. The girl there said I could only now get the hub if I cancelled the order and then re-ordered, which would mean waiting a further 5 days past the original activation date to get connected. I wasn't impressed and threatened to canell the order completely. At this point, she arranged for me to get the hub, but the modem would still arrive which I would then have to return. OK, so now that's sorted I still needed to know my new user name etc., so I got transfered again.
Surprise surprise, wrong department...
After another 3 transferes I spoke to a woman with an Indian accent (in India?) and explained to her what I wanted. She then asked me when I was moving house!! Who mentioned anything about moving house???
Yet another transfere, this one gave me a number to phone. These had the info I wanted. By this time I was thoroughly p****d off, and wanted to compalin. So I phoned 100 and asked to speak to someone who could take my complaint. No such luck, was put back to the standard list of options, which I duly selected. Then came the best bit. I got a recorded message telling me that BT had phoned me and left a message as I hadn't paid my phone bill!!!! Unbelievable.
I decicde to dump AOL after 8 years with them because their connection and technical helpline have been c**p lately, but this fiasco with BT has left me wondering if I have done the right thing. Time will tell.
