Car Vandalism

Surprised your neighbour wasn't arrested and the yobo let off scott free. That's the sort of justice we tend to hear about these days. In my case it's the scum I have for neighbours who mess with my car . When I get the brakes and exhaust mount sorted (assuming that's all that's wrong) I'm going to park it out of the way.

Yes, you'd get that impression from what you hear in the news but in our case the police were very helpful and were on our side.

I think the key thing was that we didn't leave any marks on the youth when we were 'making him confortable' while we waited for the police. As long as you haven't used disproportionate force I dont think you would get in any trouble.

The main concern is if the youth is carrying a knife or in a group. They are all too eager to use weapons and attack one person in a mob as of late. Gary Newlove comes to mind.

Someone jumped on my little Mini a few winters ago, caused £1600 worth of damage. Just some selfish ignorant twit having a laugh on their way home from a pub.

I kept him in a garage after that (my mini, not the vandal).

Prevention is better than cure, and it's so upsetting when someone does something like this. If your street is vulnerable to this type of treatment I would make a point of contacting the police about it and try and push for cameras, and (if viable) see if I could improve the lighting where the car is parked.
  • i know its horrid when it happens to you, but the people that do these things really are in the minority

Theres a lot of hysteria around this sort of thing, media is to blame

It's happening more than you think. What's to blame is underclass chav scum who have no respect for other people's property and are jealous of it.

yup, they have nothing to loose, we are not allowed to stop benefits etc or make them homeless as that is against their human rights.

When i lived in a flat with "social housing tentants" in the block, they did what ever they wanted to when they wanted, no one could do a thing about it as it was illegal for the council to make them homeless. I had no rights in that case (apart from paying for their existance through taxes)

I had the police out on 2 occasions, and there response wasnt all that helpful. Gave me the "Unless we catch them, there's not alot we can do" and "We patrol this area every night". The street is fully lit with street lighting, and my car way pretty much parked underneath a street light.

I may contact the council, to see about some sort of camera's etc.

I dis-agree. I think it happens alot more than people realise. Probably down to the fact that it usually goes un-reported. Every week I read about car vandalism incidents in my local paper.

It probably happens in more area's than others. Just depends on what type of people you have living in certain area's.

i live in a relatively quiet area.mostly old folk and working families, but recently a woman with her 2 teenage kids moved into the street, the kids have absoloutly no respect for thier mother, the abuse they give her is unbeleivable,so as you can imagine theier friends come round at night on the weekends and cause chaos in the street, someone saw them running up the street on to the roof a brand new car and tried to jump from there onto the roof of my van but the gap was to big so couldnt quite make the van,but this does go on everywhere. there is no point in reporting these things, its better to just deal with them yourself then the police cant point the finger at you when you accidently damage thier property or assault them.

I can't help but think that if every act of car vandalism is reported, the police would see the extent of the problem by the figures?

I know first hand how disheartening it is when the police do not or cannot respond to an incident like this. However, if 10 cars were vandalised in one street one night, and each owner reported the damage, the local police would realise the scale of the problem rather than the owners of all the cars simply saying "well there's no point in reporting this..." and the same thing happens again and again, and again...

Not reporting vandalism is letting the criminal get away with it even more. Let's give the police the real life statistics.

I'm fed up of being walked over. There are segments of this society who have no respect for others, and don't give a s***t. We have to think about how our actions affect others and not just ourselves. Taking a little time to report an incident to the police may not resolve your problem but could ultimately help others in the future.

Come on everyone, before the next generation of scumbags get trained up!!!!
