Still very confused, might switch back!
Having switched to Eon Energy Saver 4 a few days ago, I'm still trying to see if this is a good deal or not.
My instincts are telling me that I should switch back to the non-capped - because on this capped rate (previously had Eon Online Saver 5):-
1. I lose the online discount that I currently have
2. The units are higher than what I was on before
3. If I switch to a different non-capped, (eg Energy Saver online 8), it is discounted until November 2009, whereas this is capped until Oct 09).
Eon gave me kWh readings which, having checked my own bills for the last year are thousands of units out.
I wish I knew what to do...

Don't forget leaving the Energy Saver means you may have to pay a £35 termination fee0

You won`t know if you`ve done the right thing until Eon put their prices up. If it goes up by more than your discount then you`ve done the right thing. I came off the energy online winter saver which gave the best discount so far and the next day the prices went up by as much as the discount when I took into consideration the fact that you still get a discound of 8% for paying by dd.0

Brysiewysie - I'd cancel before my 14 day cooling off period, so no termination fee.
Space Rider - I hope I find out soon, as I can't cope with the uncertainty of it all!!!0 -
I know, surely they will put it up next week as all the major players have. Remember the termination fee is for the energy saver monitor.0

If you've switched eon products there is no 14 day cooling off, that's only if you join from another supplier. You may not have to pay it though anyway, it would seem harsh, particularly since they're currently out of monitors and you'll be waiting a while for yours!0 -
I'm in a similar position, I've switched a couple of days ago from Eon Standard Electricity (non capped) to Eon Energy Saver 4 (capped).
With an annual usage of around 7800 kWh moving to the capped rate means a price increase of about 10% at today's rates. So if Eon increase their prices by more than this over the next few weeks then I've saved money.
However... using one of the comparison sites I see that if I switched to nPower's Sign Online v12 tariff (uncapped) I would be paying £566 per year at today's prices. So nPower would have to increase their prices by a whopping 72% to reach what I'm currently signed up to with Eon's Energy Saver.
My only reservation with moving to nPower is reading about their 'customer service' on various review websites, though some of the horror stories relate more to doorstep mis-selling, and are also a couple of years old.
Can anyone see any good reason why I shouldn't switch to nPower? Even if I have to pay the £35 termination fee I'm still saving a lot of money.0 -
Brysiewysie - here is the email they sent me when I changed -
Thanks for changing your energy product to Energy Saver 4 from Energy Online Extra Saver 5. You'll see this change on your next bill.
We'll send you a letter in the post confirming your new prices and Terms and Conditions in the next few days.
Please let us know within the next 14 days if you change your mind by calling us on 0845 059 9905*, or completing a switch back on the website if this is the first time you've changed your product.
Looks like I can change my mind without incurring a penalty? Anyway, I'm going to ring them today and TRY and find out what's what.0 -
please let us know as I have done exactly the same as you!
Thanks.0 -
Right, I've just phoned them. Nice lady on the phone said that capped rate that I'm on will cost approx 20% more than my previous tariff and quoted me that I would be paying approx £16-£20 more per month (£200 increase / 12) than I am now.
The kWh units I was charged previously (18,038 for Elec, and 24,104 for Gas) are completely wrong, and they actually have 9,369 for both (estimated).
As for the monitors, if you have switched they guarantee that you will get one, it just may take a couple of weeks to receive it, rather than immediately.
If you switch to another Eon tariff then there is no charge for switching. You only get charged if you change to another supplier.
I hope that helps people.

There is a charge if you cancel the direct debit, transfer to another supplier or change product within the next 15 months.
Monitors are in short supply at the moment but you will definitely get one if you're signed up to ESv4.
Generally speaking, I would say if your capped prices are higher than around 15% on what you're paying now I would think about it, if your capped prices are 10% etc. higher than at the moment, I would do it without thinking - there's obviously going to be a price increase with everyone soon, it's just a matter of time.Dannii_B
