Best deal for a possible new broadband customer

I am looking for a bit of advice for a friend. He is living with his brother and they are sharing a virginmedia broadband connection. They have used a splitter and his brother is connected directly while he is linked wirelessly. They both contribute equally to the bill but have had a bustup and my friend wants to get a broadband link separately now.
He tells me that he is going to call up virginmedia and get them to install a new braodband line for him and ask for an independant bill in his name only(they were previously billed under his brother's name). I am not too certain that this will be allowed as his house already has a cable line so they cannot be classed as a new customer imo.
I told him that he may be able to get adsl broadband as he has SKY(no subscriptions though) and a BT line but I could not say what the going rate was?
He does not download much but does surf quite a bit so will not need anything ultraquick. What would be the cheapest and best option for him?

cheapest option is probably for him and his brother to calm down.
surprised they have both a cable and a bt line, 2 bills?! subscribing to sky could be a cheap option, off top of my head £17/month for slow/low capped bband, phone and tv if available at his exchangeUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
