SimplyAUser, I don't like to puncture your reverie, but ...
I remember at the time of the boom in internet/tech shares, valuations based on extrapolated forward earnings were simply ludicrous. AOL itself became vastly overvalued.
I watched a TV programme following 3 internet entrepreneurs. One was a group of 4 new graduates that were managing to turn over £500 per day, selling techie toys via ads in lads magazines, hardly a unique business with high entry tariffs.
Another was a woman that had a site reviewing language schools. She had a dilemma between independence and accepting advertising. After negotiations with venture capitalists on the basis of one £35 sale she had bank loans. After 3 sales she had 4 employees and a company car.
If Martin decided to change direction and carry the advertising you imagine, or sell the site to other people that chose to, the site might become less popular, or would at least significantly change the way people feel about it and participate. Why would people donate time and effort to altruistically helping fellow members when in fact those efforts might only be filling someone else's pockets?
I think that it is rather embarrassing to speculate on the value of the site. That is a matter for Martin, his bank and accountant.
At the moment there is little sign that he is following your rather different business plan though.0 -
Please see my blog on this in the meantime this "the perceived if not real impartiality" confused me?Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

In qualification the impartiality is my perception but I am sure there are those that would argue the case, I just couldn't be buggered giving them the bandwith opportunity and thought I would throw the perceived in to shut them up!
It surely wasn't meant as a slight on the site in any way shape or form, I am more than happy with the site and its admin.:beer:Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
