Hello all,
I have an old pc (hp pavillion 7919) - the monitor has recently given up the ghost and I need to retrieve some information from it.
I have already tried to connect my Dell Dimnesion 5150's monitor to it but to no avail as the connections don't fit.
Apart from getting a new monitor does anyone have any ideas....
Thanks in advance

Use a screw driver. Check the web loads of how to's
Re the monitor connection there are adaptors, you might have one/borrow one?0 -
Or if you're not in a great hurry, get a spare monitor off Freecycle. CRT monitors are offered on my local group more often than anything else!0

what sort of adaptors do i need to look for? i assume there are more than one kind?0 -
You dont say what kind of connector. Hence my waiting for more info...theres only two types. So here goes, Do you have a 15 pin plug (3x5 small round pins) or a DVI connector. I dont know what a hp pavillion 7919 / Dell Dimnesion 5150's monitor is.0

If you have an lcd tv with a 15pin D-sub input you can connect your computer to that.0

looks like it is a 9 pin vga. you can plug the computer into the tv screen via s-video or composite.
think you can get a 15 pin to 9 converion cable and that would be my choice.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -

It is not to difficult really, power down, take off the side panel, pull the wide (data cable off the drive and also the power connector (note which way around they go the go).
Then unscrew the drive (4 small screws usually).
Then you need to put it in the machine. You will need to sort out the jumper settings
so you need to note them if they are written on the drive, or look them up on the web.
It will probably be set to master and needs to be changed to slave, or possibly 'cable select', if your new machine uses cable select.. (look at how the jumper setting
are set on the the new machines main drive (I assume it only has one)) and you should be able to figure out what you need to do, if not ask again or google it.
You might have to remove the new machines main drive to look at it jumper settings
but probaly not.
It is a pretty safe procedure, worst that could happen is tha tit won't boot if you get
the settings wrong but it should be fine if you disconnect the drive again.0 -
new pc will have SATA drives, old drive will be IDE, so jumpers shouldnt be an issue, though ide bus on a proprietary mobo possibly maybeUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
