Insco seems intent on "flaming" FlameCloud all day today. Flame actually raises a lot of good points so Insco please stop wasting Martin's bandwidth by posting your incoherent ramblings.

What was incoherent? Flame basically accused policyholders making claims for freezer food of exaggerating them - hardly approaching potential claimants in an unbiased way is it? That's good?????

As you say you work for an Insurer, I am hardly expecting a balanced opinion from you - Flame also works for an Insurer.

So we are more than qualified to have an opinion. You really think claims dont get exaggerated? This happens a LOT!

Notify your full claim to Insurers in writng as soon as possible and provide as much detail as you can - Photographs of the all the food, bank statement or credit card bill should evidence how much you paid on Monday. As with Dave's advice watch the excess - check your policy as it is quite possible no excess will apply. Why did the appliance pack up - if it was damaged by an insured peril you may be able to claim for that too.

just because you work for an Insurer does not necessarily mean you are more than qualified to have an opinion, nor does it mean your opinion is any more valid than someone who does not work for an Insurer.

Flame clearly said he knows full well most food claims are eaggerated - not that a few are. This is highly derogatory towards the majority of claimants who are honest
but helps explain why honest policyholders often face such an uphill struggle when claiming.

Of course some policyholders exaggerate claims; just as some Insurer reject valid claims or some Insurers do not pay policyholders everything that they are legally entitled to.

If it is still happening a lot at your company make sure your Compliance Officer is made aware as the FSA places responsibilities upon Insurers to manage fraud and it if you are right your firm needs to act

It is not 'highly derogatory' to me, as a policyholder who is honest. What it is, is the opinion of a well-regarded, knowledgeable and longstanding poster that you seem to have some ongoing issues with. I for one am glad that FlameCloud is honest enough to tell it like it is - the last thing I want as an honest policyholder is my premiums subidising others with fraudulent intent.

There is no dispute - a reasonable amount of claims are indeed exaggerated - anyone who disputes this clearly doesnt understand the current world we live in.

Freezer food claims are one of the areas most prone to fraud - you generally get paid cash (unlike majority of other claims) Strange a high percentage include full salmons, full joints of beef, 58 lamb chops etc

Everyone pays for this regards higher premiums

Are you saying boychild has exagerated the claim at £180 - otherwise what was the point of the post?

The claim that Flame made was that "I hate dealing with food claims. You know full well most of them are exagerated, but its incredably hard to ever prove it"

    Not really an unbiased approach.
