Claiming for freezer foods?

Came home from work late Wednesday night to find the fridge freezer had packed up and all our food was thawing out. I had only been shopping on the Monday so it was full and I'm struggling to replace it. Have contacted insurance who said they will cover the freezer food up to £250, as long as i provide a comprehensive list of the food lost with approximate prices, and receipts if possible. I dont keep receipts for food shopping, so dont have those and i reckon the food lost in total will amount to around £180. My policy excess is £50 i have never made a claim on any insurance before. Im thinking of going ahead with the claim but just wanted advice from anyone who has had a similar issue, whats the likely hood of getting the full amount back (less the excess), ive a 1yr old daughter and cant afford such a large loss espcially with current rising food prices.

Mine died on me once, sent the insurance company a list of foods and got paid, I don't think I had any receipts though.
Send them the ones you have though.Payment a day challenge: £236.69
Jan Shopping Challenge: £202.09/£250
Frugal Living Challenge: £534.64/150000 -
Double check to see if the xs actually applies... often it doesn't apply to freezer food claims because their is a limit.0

1. pile all the food up in the garden and take a photo of it, list contents with approx cost to replace.
2.expect to have upto 25 % added to your premium next year if you claim ...is it worth it after the excess is deducted ? [you'll have to declare that claim for three years, so effectively your premium will be high for that period too]
I didnt think so in feb when the same thing happened to me.0 -

i wouldnt go with the 25% increase. If you havet had any other claims in the last 3 years personally i would claim. Send a list, with any receipts - tbh some insurers will settle over the phone when you call with the details0 -
Errrmmm - Have you got a Clubcard/Nectar Card? Did you buy all your shopping from a store that gives you one of these cards? If so, give their helpline a call and tell them what has happened. They should be able to tell you exactly what you have purchased over the last month - how else do you think they send you coupons for things you never buy? It's because they know exactly what you shop for!!!
Give it a go.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
not had a claim for 20 years, been with the Pru for 10 and they said if I claimed this year, would put premium up by approx 25% next year0

I hate dealing with food claims. You know full well most of them are exagerated, buts its incredably hard to ever prove it.0
