I know we’re going off topic a little bit but as a farmer I find this thread interesting. I don’t have any livestock but know from the arable side we have every part of our farm checked over at least twice a year to see every last detail in how we grow crops. I know the livestock producers have stricter guidelines and inspections to guarantee that all areas of animal welfare are been observed and provide complete traceability throughout the food chain.
I’m not ranting on about how we should all “buy British- full stop” like some areas of the agricultural industry sometimes do and then not back it up with anything. All I’m saying IMHO I know about all the strict guidelines involved throughout the food chain combined with the rigorous animal welfare rules that’s why I but British because of the assurance of the final product.
I am in no way forcing and trying to convince anyone else of these facts- but I do find it frustrating that the UK produces under such stringent rules to try and produce the best product possible and yet my industry seems to do very little to put these points forward.
ps. if anyone could make our summer arrive I would very grateful!Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

then we wouldnt need the land to house animals, and so wouldnt need the land to grow crops to feed the animals and so it would all be covered in houses and we would see no livestock in the country, think i might keep eating meat:rolleyes:£2008 for 2008 member 758

plus we wudnt need to breed the animals, so the common cow/pig would be in danger of becoming extinct!!

increased risk of stomach cancer, would that make you stop? If we stopped breeding the animals we would have more natural fauna in the country and we wouldnt need to flood our animals with antibiotics and chemical-laden food to make them grow in this unnatural wayplus we wudnt need to breed the animals, so the common cow/pig would be in danger of becoming extinct!!

actually, theres a limit on how much medication you can feed pigs, and you cant do it for a certain amount of time before they go to slaughter, either. so any antibiotics are out of their system before they reach the food chain. anyway, we take antibitoics when we're ill, whats the difference? :rolleyes:If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all

We breed sheep, cows & pigs and use no antibiotics or chemicals, just the traditional organic way. The animals are well looked after, often have names, and we therefore know exactly how our meat has been produced...we take it as our responsibility. I also grow all my own veg. Regardless of whether you eat meat or not I would not like to see people lose their jobs, homes, livelihoods...imagine if it had been your way of life and that of your ancestors...it is more emotive than a simple economic arguement or whether we should eat meat or not.Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!
