Could today's lemon price increases be the final tipping point for the housing market

With my local market stall (and the others soon to follow) announcing massive increases in bills to come this winter, I feel this is going to have a double edged impact on the housing market. Firstly those struggling to meet repayments at the moment, and currently falling onto the SVR 'trap' will be hit very hard by the increase in their lemon costs, along with the certain general inflationary effects of these rises.

:)

Maybe the rise in cost of lemons will match exactly the lesser quantities of Gin they can now afford.

    Everybody's happy.

Hah! You've missed the boat! Got my lemons on BOGOF in October 2007, squeezed them and froze the lot. I've enough to last me until the market tops out in 2011 /12. Saw all this coming a mile away, thanks to my membership of Globalemonsqueeze.com and Lemonpricehike.uk.

'Course that Jammie Oliver and Gordon Rindsay have got a lot to answer for, creating new lemonade and lemon curd recipes in 'Lemonation, Lemonation, Lemonation' and the 'F-Curd.' Oh, and there was that Hugh Fearnley-Whatsisface luring wild lemons off the market stalls in Piddletrenthide and showing everyone from the local council estate how its done as well.....It's all had an effect. But none of them even so much as hinted that lemons could become as rare as a free range hen in Tescos. Oh no. 'Lemons will just keep increasing,' that's all we heard. Huh, I'm glad I didn't listen.

So, as I said. MISSED THE BOAT! (Not that I'm gloating or anything, har! har!)

Good post. Shame I can only thank it once.

To head further OT, have you ever tasted a fresh, ripe lemon off a lemon bush GG? My father in law has a bush in his back garden in Sydney and it's a revalation. The ones in the local supermarket seem to taste of battery acid by comparison.

I bought a lemon today. Paid, and trader said he'd cut it up for me. Peeled the outer layer off and sqeezed the inside into a small jar which he put in his pocket. Then he put the squeezed remains in another jar, and placed on the back shelf. Finally he took the peelings and started to put them in his pocket...STOP.. I cried.. now you're taking the pith.

GG, you have been keeping an eye on the press I see
The problems are so severe that some fruit importers are warnings of a lemon drought, with greengrocers running short this summer – leaving drinkers of Pimms or Martini Rosso bereft of their all-important slice of fruit.
Jeremy Green, at fresh fruit and vegetable supplier Greencell, one of Britain's biggest lemon importers, said: "Lemons are in short supply and very expensive.
"The moment a shipment hit our shores they are cleared because it is an empty market – there are no stockpiles.
"By the end of July the lemons will have almost completely run out. It will be a very dry spell until September when the European lemon crops will be ready to hit the markets."
Maybe those FTBs should have stopped wasting their deposits on fancy cocktails then we wouldnt BE in this mess  some people just dont think about the wider market when making individual purchases ]

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I think it is those BTS (Buy-To-Serve) guys who own restaurants that are driving the prices up. While inflation is rising on the one hand due to the higher money supply over the past few years, lemoney supply is on the decline thanks to hoarding by the BTS brigade.

You're just sour because you missed the lemon boat. I've made lots of juicy returns.
