im not capping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ive signed up to eon's capped price however im in the 14 day cooling off periodand i think im gonna tell them not to bother, on average i would be paying 20% more for my gas and electric and i just dont think its worth it for something that MAY go up in january, just out of interest i was slow on the uptake with this whole capping thing what were the best deals that were about? ie what is the best price that some of you capped at?

Wouldn't it be worth waiting until just before the end of your 14 day cooling off period?
How would you feel if you phoned them to cancel now and on Monday they announce their price increase?
Don't forget Eon have not increased their rates yet.0 -
Yes, with at least 2 of the remaining companies likely to rise within the next week-10 days, waiting until the 11th hour is likely the best way to go providing you can find something that still makes you a saving.0

Thats exactly what I'm planning on doing. I applied for the SP capped rate yesterday but I'm going to wait and see how much eon (my current supplier) puts their prices up to. If it's less than 10% then I'll cancel my switch, if it's more then I'll go ahead with it. Either way all my options are still open.0

I was with Eon on one of their internet tariffs. Just applied for Scottish Power capped which if Eon prices stay the same will be £35 a year more expensive (6.5%) and has a £50 cancellation charge. The Eon capped was £116 (22%) more expensive - no way!!!. Last time Eon took 4 months before they applied their rate rise to the internet tariff so they will "maybe" take a similar time this time around in which case if the predicted rise in January is in fact a decrease (in which case it'll be December for Xmas!!!) I would have been better off not capping.....0

Must admit I was in two minds whether to fix or not but with all suppliers announcing an increase in Summer 2008 and another increase planned for early 2009, it seemed the right thing to do.
It is a shock when you realise FIXED "today" rates are actually much higher than current "today" rates (mine were 30% higher for gas, 30-40% higher for electric). So it is a gamble. Pay extra now to avoid the possibilty of paying extra further down the line.
But if the "first" price increase brings you on a par with your fixed rates you can at least not worry about the "next" increase which WILL happen.0 -
if i stick with the capped price i will be paying £250 a year more,0

I am also in two minds - I'm currently with Atlantic for Gas and Elec and get one month rebate back for each every year from them. Not only will I not get that but will be paying about the same amount more on the new capped rate ... even if it does go up if it doesn;t stay up 30-60% all year I'm not sure I'll be better off.. Doh! Its doing my head in0

I was already an EON customer. When changing deals through their direct website it helpfully compares your old deal with your new deal.
A lot of EON customers here still seem to think they were on a cheaper deal than they actually were. AFAIK I had a letter in February this year stating that Energy Online Extra Saver was ending at the end of May. My latest bill shows that I was moved onto the Energy Online tariff on 10 June.
So, my move from Energy Online to Price Protection 17 is 'only' a 16% increase in Gas, and a 10% increase in electricity.
I'm expecting the forthcoming increase in EONs pricing to be about 10% for electricity, in which case I neither gain or lose. However, I'm predicting that their increase in Gas prices will be much more than 16% based on EDF & BG so overall I should be saving.0 -
just like the OP, I too panicked on friday night and signed up for the first capped rate I could get online. EON
Now I read the details it seems I will be paying £250 a year more than I am now. I am with Npower at the mo.
Not sure what to do now.
I may cancell and just risk it with Npower.
Last time I switched I tried British Gas and it was a total fiasco that ended up costing me more.
I ended up going back to Npower for better service.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0
