Just checked my internet explorer security settings and *.doubleclick is in there! So don't know why it's popping up?0

Odd. I bypassed my proxy server, shut down zonealarm, then used IE instead of Avant, but couldn't see it. Knew if my hosts file had blocked it I'd still get an empty pop-up window, so concluded it was blocked by the restricted zone settings. It was probably fixed before I did all that. :rotfl:danmanchester wrote:Just checked my internet explorer security settings and *.doubleclick is in there! So don't know why it's popping up?
I don't think it was anything dangerous. Someone obviously screwed something up at doubleclick last night.0 -
Yes, someone's annoyed a lot of people! I've managed to manually block it by going into IE tools/internet options/security/clicking the restricted sites icon/then down to click the "custom" button....and scrolling all the way to the last option User Authentication and ticking Anonymous Logon (it was set to "prompt for user/password).
I don't quite understand about hosts files but this seems to have worked for me...for the moment!0 -
My custom security settings for the restricted zone would probably fall under the 'Paranoid' category
so that's probably why you needed to do some fiddling around.
Very basically, the hosts file is a list of redirects. So for example, a line like "X.X.X.X www.google.com" would tell your browser to look for the google site at that IP address (X.X.X.X). So, by setting a redirect to 127.0.0.1 (your local computer), you can trick your browser into looking for the page there. Obviously it won't find it, so the page won't load. It's not only good for protecting you against malicious sites, but you also save on bandwidth by not downloading any of their content. Full instructions and a file packed full of dodgy sites at the link I posted in #4, if you're interested.danmanchester wrote:I don't quite understand about hosts files but this seems to have worked for me...for the moment!0 -
Cheers Masonic! Just did a quick crash-course in hosts files, installed that hosts zip and also the spybot hosts list too. No more pop ups :money: !0

Phew
I am glad I am not the only one who was getting this.
I ran spybot, ad aware, spysweeper and pestpatrol with sophos a/v and they cam up with nothing.
My hosts file is already locked down but I still keep getting it?!All that glisters is not gold, except moneysavingexpert.com0
