I think the issue of motability vehicles along with blue badges and free tax discs is always going to be contentious no matter what the law says.people will either be jealous if they don't have it, trying their utmost to get it because they believe passionately that they are entitled to it or moaning about others getting it when they already have it because everyone else is a fraudulent claim except them its pathetic the amount of forum space these arguments take up on the internet.Live and let live and leave the fraud detection to the DWP the police and crimewatch staff.People need to stop playing at amateur slueth, butt out of other peoples lives and try getting lives of their own.How odd it seems to me that people can be incandescent with rage at the prospect of having to park two car widths further away from the doors of the supermarket because someone else took "their" space, but then stroll round the entire town and shopping centre without a care in the world.be thankful for what you have and don't worry about what others are doing and just get on with your life and try to stop being so bloody grasping all the time

Well I thought was going to be a sensible nuetral, post, but.....

Matelot, it's not just were these spaces are placed thats the issue, it's the width of them. The extra space enables car door to be opened fully to aid getting the infirm in and out. Most general areas do no allow space for this, and I'm sure you like me would be the 1st to complain if your car was damaged by a door or wheelchair when you got back to it??

To be honest disabled parking slots too near the doors of the shop can be a disadvantge. Our local coop has these directly outside the front and because of the extra space given, everyone coming out of the shop goes between these spaces. You can guess the rest;)

As you say, live and let live.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

to be fair, i am accutely aware of the needs of those who require wider parking spaces which i do believe are justified which is why I deliberately didn't mention people who need wider spaces. The type of person I am referring to (and we all know people like it) are the sort I referred to in my post and who IMHO are responsible for most of the ranting posts about disabled parking here and on similar forums...... they are lucky that the country in which they live is happy to give them some consideration regarding the difficulties they have but thankfully aren't too disabled that they cannot get about but still bemoan the fact that they witness other people getting something to which they themselves may only barely be entitled to that is the point of my post perhaps i wasn't clear but I do stand by my remarks re: people needing to get a life and keep out of others ;)
    take care

  • OMG whats wrong with some of you people? jealousy ? these people get DLA higher rate and qualify for the mobility scheme, life is hard enough as it is for them without some cretins causing more aggro by reporting people or slagging them off.

No i dont get DLA or a mobility car, but believe me im sure all these genuine people would give it up tomorrow if they could have a life without disability

Truely sicking, it really is, you disgust me

the bottom line is jealousy! if you rather have a disability to get a car then there is something really wrong with you!

Be a bit more specific can't you, or does the whole world make you sick. It's also 4 months since the last post, you been hibernating?

hmmm as the mother of an 18 year old with Aspergers
I really don't think that a motability car is much compensation for the prospect of living the rest of my life WITH my child and being wholly responsible for him and his welfare until the day I die

I DON'T get HRM - I do get HRC for him and I tell you I would GLADLY give it up and every penny I could spare if someone could wave a magic wand and make him "normal"
he is at college 2.5 days per week - but in the summer and at holidays he is with me 24 hours a day 7 days a week and much as I love him- this is NOT normal for a boy of his age.

As Mummytofour says................walk a mile in my shoes THEN judge me

And no I was not wrong if all mobility cars have to have disabled car duty now.

Children are a different matter. As the parents who are legal guardians use the money to make both their lives and the child's life easier . Also people who are very disabled again someone else will be using the money to make the person life easier. And those are not the type of people I was referring to.

I am talking about someone like me. Who has a disabled husband and who pays and run my own car. I would like to change my car at the moment but can't afford it. So it is ok to make my husband sign over his benefit so I get a new car all paid for. Even though the DLA payments don't even cover the real costs of running a car and the tab is picked up by a charity.

Some people seem to think that going to work in it is ok. I personally don't as my interpretation is, they are talking about direct benefit not an indirect benefit in the use of the car. e.g I do all the housekeeping and all the shopping and most of the journeys for my husbands appointments. That to me is a direct benefit to my husband and even when I go shopping he comes with. Going to work is not direct benefit.

Even if my husband was not disabled I would still have to run a car to get too and from work. But now I need a car more than ever. As some of my husbands appointments are 50 mile round trip.

Personally if I had mobility car I not feel happy unless my husband was in the car doing any errands for him e.g collecting his post from the post office for example.Even though I knew it was legit. Unless I had dropped him off for a physio session for an hour and went home and then came back again later for him.

Seems Terryw has posted a link.

    Yours

They will have told him that on wedensday when he rang them to tell them she had died, what did they say?

He should have arranged to have the car picked up last week, he cant keep it and no one can drive it after last tuesday, DONT allow anyone to drive it because they will not be insured (and no you cant drive motability cars on your own third party insurance)
