Thank you everybody for all your lovely suggestions!

Pork is still in the freezer - pineapple has been eaten. However, mah_jong's recipe sounds absolutely yummy. I might plan on getting a few more ingredients in and making it on Wednesday, but using a casserole pot on the stove (don't really have the chance to use the SC during the week as I'm usually out for 12-13 hours a day, so things would surely be overcooked even on low (??) and of course I can't put it on the timeswitch to come on at midday because the liquid is supposed to be boiling when you start.)

HAVE to use that pork soon because housemate is on at me to get it out of his half of the freezer (my half's full of all my single-portion boxes of HM ready meals :D )

You don't HAVE to use hot water - but you'd need to allow some extra time for the liquids to come up to temperature if you are on a timer.

So a full pot starting from cold... eight to ten hours should be fine. It really is hard to overcook in a slow cooker - although it can be done if you try really hard :)

As with everything it's trial and error but you're not likely to overcook too far and if it's underdone for your taste you can always whack the joint into a hot oven to finish, or even nuke it.
