Pork roasting joint

Hi y'all,
Passing Sainsburys at closing time this evening I found a nice piece of pork reduced from £4 to £2, which is now safe in my freezer. First thought was "I'm sure my slow cooker will like it" but upon searching the slow cooker thread, I found that there are no appropriate recipes - they're all for chops, ribs, steaks, diced pieces etc. What I've got is a boneless leg roasting joint of about 1kg.
All ideas gratefully accepted! If I don't get any better suggestions I was thinking of cooking it in cider, possibly with some cloves stuck in the meat. But I'm not very experienced in pork so I'd welcome a few ideas.
Perhaps the results of this enquiry can end up on the recipe index (cheers squeaky
)
Thanks!

Hi Bargain Rzl,
I love roast pork.
I always insert a few (well a lot really) slivers of garlic into the meat before cooking.
Preheat the oven at its highest setting. Put the meat into the oven at the highest heat (to seal it) for 20 minutes.
Reduce the heat to 180 degrees and continue to roast, allowing 45 minutes per pound. For your 1kg joint that would be just over one and a half hours.
Allow the joint to rest for at least 15 minutes before carving.

Hi pink-winged!
Interesting... I'm also a garlic fan. How do you put the garlic in the pork? Do you score the meat?Operation Get in Shape

First slice the garlic, then use a sharp knife and stab (sorry can't think of a better word at this time of night) the meat with it..........twist the knife so that you have a hole. Push the garlic in as far as you can.
It sounds messy and it is a bit, but it's well worth it for the flavour.:)

I cooked a nice piece of pork in my Slow Cooker on Wednesday. I just added a little water on the bottom and placed it in. Cooked it on slow for about 6 - 7 hours. Took it out and de-fatted it.
I hate any fat on meat. Patted it with paper towels and served it with gravy & roast veggies. It is so lovely and moist. I've done it a few times now in the SC & it's so lovely this way. And I'm not a big fan of pork.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Besides the pork, I also have a pineapple which I bought reduced to 20p on Wednesday and really needs eating up :j Picked it up off the reduced fruit display at Tescos and wandered round the rest of the aisles singing the Pineapple Song from the stage show of "Cabaret" - it's a good thing it was closing time and nobody was there as I would have been carried away by the men in white coats by now :rotfl:
If it's not too much trouble would you mind posting the recipe today? Pretty please!!Operation Get in Shape

for those without a slowcooker..the best tip I have some across is to soak pork in a mild saline solution overnight before cooking...it makes it so much more tender!Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0

Hi Bargain Rzl
THIS this is what I do with belly pork, it's a cheaper cut of meat and so delicious. Belly pork would be too fatty for the slow cooker, so not exactly what you are looking for, but perhaps an alternative for another time?
Found lots of Slow cooker pork recipes for you!0 -

I'm eating roast pork done on the slow cooker as we speak. I put it in at about 7.15am this morning and it's now 12.30pm. I pour either cider or apple juice over it and add a chopped onion, peas, carrots and potatos. I'm not one for herbs and spices but I suppose you could add those too.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
