friend and I went last night, food was lovely only niggle being my side dish came out and thenmy main meal and 15 mins later my friend hadn't got either and we didn't have drinks. when we asked about her meal they said they don't leave food on the hotplate so if yours is ready it gets served, so I think maybe a little attention to those eating together and timing the meals better. having siad that they were full to the rafters, and the young lad who served us was very good.
Having said that the food was great but I'm not sure I'd go back very often, quite pricey for something that they kind of seat you , you eat, you leave.
but thank you so much for posting it, we had a lush meal.

We went today when they opened for lunch. Top rate! We chose two of the most expensive entres and enjoyed every morsel. The house red wine was FANTASTIC. The orange juice was fresh and SUPERB. And they didn't charge us anything extra for a posh glass bottle of still water. The side dishes were equally delicatesse. Although there was some time lapse between serving each of the side dishes, those were easily shared and astute chopstick operaters needn't reach too far. They accomodate babies very well, and offer colouring book and coloured pencils to keep them cheerful. Only suggestion for improvement is that for a cold winter day there weren't enough coat rack's on the wall.
Generally the prices are a bit high. Can't imagine many people dashing there for lunch every day unless they are company directors with a hefty expense account. Possibly they should've located the restaurant nearer to John Lewis where their overpriced cafeferia is located.0 -
I was there on Weds as well, found it a bit.... hassled at first - although to be fair we were the first sitting and it was a real case of getting everything together - the waiters/tresses were still learning their iPaqs!
I recommend the Duck Gyoza as well as the Ebi Katsu for sides. As for mains, I'm a chicken katsu curry kinda girl...
I'm going back tonight as well - Andrea if you see anyone familiar from Weds night it's me and my OH - we'll be there between 7 and 8
I had a couple of niggles - firstly be careful if you're ordering Diet Coke because they're bottled (yay!) but the bottles are identical to normal cokes, and on my first order out came a normal one (boo!). Secondly, one of the waitresses was rude to other members of staff and spent her time shouting across tables - I popped that on my comment form. If she's not there tonight, we all know why.... :rotfl:0 -
I played it safe and had the Chicken Ramen - Soup and Noodles with chicken, and the Gyoza - Chicken wraps. The Soup and chicken part were nice, but the noodles were very bland as was the Gyoza until you dipped it in the sauce that came with it!
My friend had Negima Yakitori and the Chicken Katsu Currey, which were both very tasty!

I got recognised on my second visit, despite being seated in a different area...!!!!!!
When the waiter came over, he said: "I don't mean to be rude, but were you in here yesterday??" I said: "hmm, Wednesday, maybe"...
Second time around was better, still a delay in the timing of meals and sides coming out... this time we went for the ebi katsu and ebi gyoza (both v nice), a cha han (highly recommended by my OH) and a chicken chilli men - v spicy but very tasty...
The couple next to us who arrived around 7.30 had a torrid time with their orders - they screwed up the drinks order... a mains appeared before a side... I don't think the bloke next to my OH was v happy.
Not many people left a tip - did you?0 -
We left five quid tip, having been impressed that the young waiter memorised every entre name with its corresponding menu number. And also because we felt sympathy for him after he spilled soup on the lady seated at the next table and she was wearing a new top:)
Question we had was why do they write the number of everything you order on the paper placemats? Is it because they want a hardcopy record in case their handheld PDA's run out of juice or the computer network goes down? Gets kind of akward for the customer when the waiter moves the glass or bowl to write down another number.0 -
I went Friday evening and loved every minute of it! I sat in the middle with OH and it was nice and warm. Didn't feel a draught at all. The waiter (Dale) was great and the food was delicious! Had the duck parcels and chicken and rice in oyster sauce (can't remember the names) and I would definately recommend them. Price wise, they're about as expensive as the Hungry Horse and Beefeaters without the deals but I think the food is worth it.
I got the impression the numbers were written on the paper so they keep track of what you had, so you couldn't have more than allowed.(I.E. 2 main courses each - which would've been nice:drool: )
I agree there could be more coat hooks. It was nice to have a shelf under the table for your bag!
I'd definately go again :jMy mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely0 -
Didn't realize that there were shelves under the table.
Upon further reflection I recall that it was the first time that I had an entire steak served literally inside my soup!
Initially, I was a bit distressed about how I would be able to cut the steak with just chopsticks but I just worked on the miso soup for a while (using the gigantic wooden soup spoon that is more like a ladel at the end of a baton) as I pondered how to achieve that feat in a dignified manner. As the soup level gradually descended into the large bowl, increasingly revealing a steak island reminiscent of a continental land mass in a sea of miso, I endeavoured to nudge the steak challenge with the tip of a chopstick - only to be stunned to find that in actuality the long beef ridge had already been sliced into bitesized pieces (and apparently replaced back into position - kind of like the attached links in a spinal chord). By that time the waiter had brought a spoon and fork after mustering a condescending smile when I asked for the fork, but I was able to put those utensils to good use on the massive noodles.
The devil is in the detail.
When our baby began to get restless I offered her a red pepper out of the soup. Just before the tiny diner got her taste of the veg, the OH yelped "what are you doing?!" Not understanding the consternation, I replied in a logical tone "just giving her a piece of red pepper from my soup". OH retorted in shock "you, nut - that's not a red pepper that's a chilli pepper!"
"Nah it's not," I defended, popping the red circle daintily into my mouth.
Behold, within moments it transpired, the sumptuous little piece of fresh veg turned out to be one hot humdinger of a chilli pepper tempest. As the OH looked on in amusement, and baby watched curiously, a sunburn tone of reddened irritation set upon my face like an inferno shadow. Fortunately there were TWO complimentary drinks each, as part of the free deal. The fresh-squeezed orange juice doused the tastebuds first, followed by quick gulps of the delicious red wine. Fortunately the waiter was in the vicinity and I was barely able to mumble in a horse tone, "I think we'll have a bottle of still water now". "Still water?" he asked, checking that he understood my request, as if it entailed the accurate calculation of some complex scientific formula; and all this while he could have been at least 10 meters on his way to the beverage stores by now. Eventually he returned and three quarters of a still water bottle later, I was able to resume my consumption of the contents of the largest soup bowl I had ever seen. Seriously, if dinosaurs ate soup they'd be eating it out of these bowls. I discretely extricated all chillipepers from the perimiter of the bowl, and continued my task. After all, this main course was selected in part because it was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. So chilipepper torture or not, we weren't going to let it go to waste. All was well for the next few minutes. The steak disappeared and then I set about devouring the remaining contents, alternating between noodle mass and soup level. After all, one must basically get the soup level down before being able to dig into the noodle mass. Otherwise it's kind of like spearing for fish that you cant see below the water line. And as the soup level descended, there emerged an important caveat - just when you thought it was safe to go back into the soup - it seemed that the less soup remained, the more spicier it was becoming. It gradually became VERY VERY spicy. And suddenly it emerged that there were more chilli peppers at the bottom of the bowl. So don't think that if you removed all the chilli peppers you can see, that there might not be yet more hidden at the bottom, under the noodles. Whether or not it might be a ploy to get you to order more beverages, only the creators of the legendary Waganama could know.0 -
Not sure whether people actually read up on Wagamama before they went for the 'freebee' or had actually been to one before but there seem to be a lot of people complaining about getting dishes at different times.
Wagamama's policy is that they serve you food when it's ready, so that youdont have to wait longer than you need to and so food doesn't get cold. Also it promotes the sharing of meals and is meant to create a more 'social' meal rather than a formal one.
Not meaning to knock anyone's opinion, just wanted my input.
p.s. I dont work for them!0 -
Yes, OH and I each shared one another's starters when they came at alternate times. It was very social, very pleasurable and very hot. :rotfl:0
