cheers. now in 2008 where on earth do i get a swipe card? Been a contract customer for years - just need a 2nd phone for incoming calls/emergencies only

you can phone up and register a bank card and do £5 top-ups that way if you prefer.

Any Payzone or Paypoint agent should be able to sell you a £5 orange e-voucher - you then just dial 450 and follow the instructions to add a voucher.
I abandoned top up by credit card as registration was always such a faff and like you I top up so rarely (emergency phone) either my details had changed, or the number had expired, so it felt like getting authorisation to enter some high military base rather than for putting a few quid on a phone! Handing over a fiver to my local newsagent is much easier!!!0
