people get insurance, then put it in a safe place with all their other documents, I am not the only one who doesn't read everything, my point was that i think auto renewal is out of order, unless i specifically ask for it
its not out of order, theres nothing wrong with it, theres terms and conditions which your are meant to read,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I would advise you to send in proof of dual insurance as most companies will actually backdate the canx to that day thus clearing some or all of the outstanding balance.
For automatic renewals it states it on the insurance certificate/schedule and again on the renewal notice.
My advice is to check when the documents come through at the start of the policy and then ring up keeping a note of the person you spoke to and the date and time and opt out of the auto renewal - this can be done at any point during the 12 month contract.
Hope this helps.0 -
I have to say Im one for just bunging policies into a file and not reading them - I certainly will read at least the attached letters from now on. (If only we had done that back when our IFA told us how wed have £40k for our retirement if we took out an endowment policy with our mortgage

I really think this type of transaction should be outlawed. Wherever paying out money is concerned, the customer should always be in full control.
Dave.
I agree. There should at least be more info/choice/time for the customer to act. Compulsory and upfront opt-out of auto-renewal when buying, 28 days no-quibble no-charge equivalent of the 'distance selling' cooling off period, and 2-3 letters explaining and highlighting the automatic nature of the renewal, in case one letter goes astray, or not read in detail.0 -
So that's a vote for more [possibly much more] expensive car insurance then? :rolleyes:I agree. There should at least be more info/choice/time for the customer to act. Personally I'm happy to take some personal responsibility for my insurance renewals and keep costs down!

Indeed.
You only have to read through the thread to see how many people are quite simply either too stupid or too immature to take responsibility for their actions.
As I posted earlier, here is what the disgruntled poster apparently couldn't comprehend, despite it being crystal clear and highlighted:
"The notice presented to you before inception [regarding inertia renewal] where you have to click a button that states 'YES, I AGREE' is in exactly the same font and point size as the rest of the text used in the quotation and inception process. Indeed, it is prefaced by a warning to "Please ensure that the information provided by you and the statements on this page are correct" which is contained in a big red box to draw it to your attention."0
