Kavanne, just shows you they can do great service when they want.

Must say, I worked out that I've shopped with them for nearly 30 years without major problems - but then I've never needed help from them. Maybe my problem is just an unfortunate string of bad luck and misunderstandings.
Look at the first line of my post, I did NOT use Argos!!

I forgot to mention that after the upholsterer had been Argos rang me saying I could either have a refund or pick another suite as that one was out of stock and they weren't getting any more in. When I asked for the one I've got to be discounted she said someone from the upholstery section would give me a ring back. When they did, I was told the suite was going to be in their new catalogue as they were getting some more in. Why didn't the first person know they were getting more in?

I'm getting the new back cushion delivered Thursday morning... fingers crossed that it's ok!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

I've been trying to check out the Boxer Bed company too but the results I am getting indicate they may have gone into liquidation?

Lip_Stick, that'll be the five times (I think) won't it? How much is this costing Argos? It'd be cheaper to spend a little time the first time it went wrong and make sure the second attempt was spot on.

With my bed, don't suppose they'll be able to sell it on again - so at a quick guess so far its cost them about £600 of sales for the replacement units alone on a £550 complete bed. Serves them right.

    Good luck on number 5.

    Timman,

I fully agree with your comments.

I ordered 2 bikes from Argos a few weeks ago (they were in their clearance sale). I was told that they would arrive on Friday morning between 7 and 12.

One bike arrived at 9am on Friday. When I queried the location of the 2nd bike I got a blank look off the driver and was told to call the store. When I called them they apologised and said the 2nd bike would arrive on Monday morning.

After waiting in all morning on Monday no bike arrived. When I called them I was told "the delivery of the 2nd bike has not been scheduled"!?!?!?

Bizarre - given that they were both ordered at the exact same time and on the same receipt.

Finally got the second bike on the Wednesday.

    Never again.

    AVOID ARGOS!
it doesnt matter that they are ordered at the same time. all items come from differant sources.
When your called to book delivery you should have been made aware exactly what item it was for - they telebooker SHOULD have told you it was for one bike only

    Argos are liars.

They do bring deliveries upstairs for you if you live in a flat that's not on the ground floor. I think they just do not like going into people's houses.
but at the end of the day its up to the delivery guy
some are nice and will help but some just cant be bothered

Have followed the great advice on this site and written a letter to Sara Weller MD.

Started with the how great Argos is bit, through the problem all the way making polite suggestions on how to improve, through to a conclusion on how to resolve the issue.

Feel much better now. Thanks peeps.
thing is with argos customer service, is they CAN help you but they are not supposed to - unless you kick and scream enough and have enough bad experiences with them to justify the extra mile with the customer service agent (well, team leader). its not the operaters fault, its the policies and management that keep them and dont like to bend the rules for everyone - its like they try and get away with as much as they can

chances are you'll get no more than 10% of the order (in gift vouchers) and thats ONLY if its been delivered already - they dont like offering compensation (or good will gesture as its called to them) when the good's aint been delivered, maybe because that way you can ask for more money on each failed delivery attempt

I think you'll find sulky staff in most high street stores, that's what you get when you employee teenagers who are more worried about their spots and their next shag.

I quoted back an interview to Sara Weller in the Daily Mail May 2007 titled "Argos boss not afraid of heavy lifting" - where she brags how she spends a day a year shifting sofas etc on deliveries with the team.

I invited her to help move my bed upstairs for this year's day. Said it would demonstrate commitment.

The way they treat people is utterly shambolic. There's no other word for it. Their staff are rude, slovenly, and you're lucky if you get something that is actually new or complete.

It's like doing your shopping at a bring and buy sale on a council estate ravaged with crime and illiterates! They're not even cheap!

    PMSL.

I doubt she could find her way from behind her desk and all the way to the depot.
