  • There has to be a way to remove defaults, 6 years is far too long, people can change alot in 6 years.

    HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!
  • there is no way to remove defaults they will show satisfied or not you say you have had no contact over 3 years that doesn't mean you won't get a ccj nothing in the link you posted says any thing about removing valid defaults also what counseller are you talking about ?? cccs. payplan?
  • I spoke to Equifax today, they stated that companies can remove defaults just by a simple phone call.........
  • Companies who place a default against you will mark it satisfied if you pay the debt - it will remain on your file as "satisfied" for six years, if you do not pay the debt then it will remain on your file as unpaid for six years, you will NEVER get a default removed from you file unless you can prove they were placed there in error if you owe the banks, companies, whoever the money the default remains - you seem slightly confused about equifax's part is all this, they place information given to them by the banks etc on you credit file and they won't remove with a simple phone call the only way they remove it is if the creditor tells them to which is very unlikely as even if the debt is paid it will only be marked as satisfied
  • Actually, i think it you that is confused with all this......

I have stated, Equifax remove the default if the creditor who placed it there phones them and tells them to take it off.....maybe your just not listening..........

No I am listening the point I am making is no creditor will do this - they leave the defaults on to punish us simple as that - of course you can ring them and ask for them to be removed absolutely nothing stopping you doing that it wont' happen though - not if the default is valid
  • Hi Gameover

I must say that I am surprised that Equifax say they can remove defaults with a phone call - but if that is the case, then cool! My defaults, though showing as settled, still stayed on for the full 6 years. To be honest with you, I'm glad in a way cos I really learnt my lesson. I'm also lucky that I'd taken out my mortgage many years prior to defaults and never missed any payments on it. Good luck.
    Mortgage-free wannabe!
  • I've got two defaults on my file, not for huge amounts, and i've been able to get a mortgage. Don't know a way to get them removed though.
  • This may sound crazy but I don't mind having defaults on my record for 6 years, it has taken me the best part of that to sort myself out and am well on the road to recovery...I do not want any more credit ever!

I believe they are on there for 6 years for a very good reason and why should you just be be able to take off something that is meant to be there as a warning?
