Not sure if I'm stupid or not!

I've unlocked my Nokia "O2 pay as you go" phone after entering the code found on one of the free websites.

I've inserted my new Virgin Mobile Sim Card. Why is it when I switch the phone on the screen says "O2 Welcome" and when I switch off I the screen says "O2 Goodbye". When the phone is on the screen says T-Mobile UK.

Grateful for views, advice or agreement regarding my stupidity. Thanks.

Just ignore the O2 Welcome and the O2 Goodbye messages due to the handset being O2 branded. The fact that it says T-Mobile means that it is in fact working, even if it doesn't say Virgin Mobile, as Virgin uses the T-Mobile network.

O2 PAYG handsets are normally locked, contract handsets not.

you would need to get the phone debranded to remove the o2 branding. if you were to debrand it, you would need to back up the data on it as debranding wipes all data from the phone
