Welcome back JCD - I have just posted on your diary! I hope you are well and now ready for debt busting big time!!
Shaun, sorry I missed your earlier post. I am really pleased everything is good with the baby, and I am not surprised you are both shattered! Make sure you look after yourselves as well as the brood x
Sarahneedle - it is basically:
a) Bills/debts still to be paid
b) current account balances
c) money in the overpayment account
d) money I am expecting in before the end of the month
e) emergency funds
So every day I list each amount as above. Then I do
b - a if that is a positive balance, then I am happy - I know that there is enough there for bills to be paid. If that is a negative balance, I then have to do (b+c) - a to see if I have enough in the current account plus the overpayment account.
If I am still short, I then obviously look to d) to see what is coming in before payday, and whether this needs chasing up, or whether it will come in too late to be of any use.
Finally, and only in emergency, I can use anything in e).
It really is that simple, but it is keeping me on the straight and narrow. If the current accounts have enough in for the remaining bills, then I know I can use the overpayment money that comes in (ebay, mystery shopping, etc) to go off a debt.
As for the bills account itself, I do a running monthly total but in reverse, sort of. So I know at any point in the month what I still have to find.
Eg: (my month runs from 23rd because that is payday) for my debt account
Date....Payee........................amount.................still to find
23rd HSBC...........................£170.00................£1390.43
29th Barclays.......................£460.38................£1220.43
1st Egg loan 1....................£193.74................£760.15
......Egg loan 2....................£422.75................£566.41
11th Legal & General..............£50.00.................£143.66
17th Halifax.........................£93.66..................£93.66
So, at a glance, I know that if I look at my accounts on 27th month, I still need to have £1220.43 in that particular current account to cover the remain debt payments.
If I look at the accounts on 10th month I still need to have 143.66 in there to cover the remaining payments. Because I can easily see what I still have to pay, it is much easier with the accounts notebook to see what I still need to find from expected money in etc.
Hope that is what you needed!!
Thanks Hypno, thats exactly what I was looking for!

Hi Seaxwyn......the secret to the increased challenge total was that £32 reached my bank account yesterday from a client's cheque that was paid in earlier in the week, so I paid that money off HSBC yesterday afternoon.
Of course, today I am behind total again, but it will always be up and down in relation to the targets. I don't expect to be paying anything else until the end of the week when a loan payment goes out and I will be somewhere close again!
Just taken the kids to race camp and ended up working an hour in the coffee shop, so that is an hour's skiing paid for in return. I will head back there after lunch to watch them for a while.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. OK, so managed to do some lightspeed surveys - only got screened out of one so that was pretty good going!! I have been less inclined to do these recently, because of the number that I got screened out on but this batch has encouraged me to have another go!
OH gets a good amount through, but I don't seem to get so many.......but every little helps!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
