hi all
im throwing this idea out here for info and feed back
was talking to oh today and we were thinking of returning to the uk but wondered what the situation would be re benefits and housing.
as you know my knee is knackered but they don't want to replace it for at least another ten years, mid 50s.is advisable but will probably need it in the next two yrs.
.Which means im left semi disabled ,now i have to check out the Irish system properly but this is roughly what im entitled to all in EURO # = have this now
# disability pension 240.00 per wk
# claim for children x 2 24.00 per week
# child benefit x 2 160 = 360.00 per mth
free bus rail pass,
# cresh fees help up to 6yrs 1000.00 pa paid 4x 250
# back to school allow one off payment €200.00
# medical card ,,free meds drs hospital dentist worth €2000.00 over here to me
also covers oh and children.
also available but not handed out easily
no standing orders on gas ,elect, tel
reduced car tax 70.00 pa
and should qualify for a council house,
this is the big one as private rent is 1200 to 1400 pm
council is max 400 pm
just had a call from my friend who is in a similar position and apparently you can live aboard under this system and still have full claim and work up tp 20hrs per wk no cash limit on this
ave part time job 240 to 300 pw
think ive answered my own question now but ill post anyway
jr has decided he not going to sleep tonght so im on the night shift till 3am:jWAS DEBT FREE & STILL BAAARRRRRKING
hello my name is shaun,,,and im not so addicted to farmville, still addicted to football:o:o
BAAAARRRRRRRRRRKING er insanely so0 -
Hi shaun, i suffered with a bad knee for years. If my last op hadn't worked then they would have replaced it..are you sure they can't do something?I would certainly see a decent consultant if you decide to come back.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
had cartilages out and had carbon fibre ligaments put in but they went in 2000
been to one the best mr keogh ,
the x rays show the bones on the right hand side are completely clapsed grinding away at each other hence the almighty pain which according to the dr is going to get a 1000 times worse ,,,to the point of no sleep even with meds..
their is no long term option only how long can it be put off!!
there are a lot of risks involved trying to do it twice which usually end in amputation
so 55 is the preferred early op age ,,
only really looking at coming back if we would be better off
otherwise may as well stay here
think the irish education system is far better as well, 75% of kids take high O level 50 take A level standard very high national pass rates,
so thats another big consideration
dont finish here till 18yrs,WAS DEBT FREE & STILL BAAARRRRRKING

Morning everyone!
Shaun, I would go and ask on the benefits board on MSE - they will be able to give you all the info you need.
for basic info you could visit www.entitledto.com which will give you some idea of things you can receive like council tax benefits etc but I don't know if it will give you the full picture - worth a look though.
BUT I would say, even though you might be marginally better off under one system or the other - look at your lifestyle and that of your children - if you feel that Ireland is better than the UK for things like education and medical provision, then that is worth FAR more than a bit of extra money in my opinion.......but it is only my opinion.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. doodledo - steal away!! I really have found that it makes a big difference. I don't have an excuse not to do the numbers each morning so it really does make me keep on top of things.
Right, today - the children have free cinema tickets this afternoon so I will take them there, and on the way we have to buy trainers for DD because they are at race camp next week and do a lot of fitness which is no good in her current "2 sizes too small" trainers
OH did a survey in the street yesterday and was given £2 "love to shop" vouchers as a thank you, which can be used in JJB sport, which happens to have a sale on, and is nearby the cinema........so that is where we are heading!
The children take their own bottles of squash from home and will buy sweets from the supermarket on the way so no expensive cinema-priced stuff for us......no no!!!
OH has just left for another shift in 2nd job......so while the children are at the cinema this afternoon I might just get a couple of hours to myself
Hope you all have a good day!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Morning Hypno,
Make sure you take full advantage of the couple of hours to yourself and relax a bit and eat lots of chocolate0 -
Morning Hypno and all.
Didn't want to start a new thread for this so I was hoping someone on here could help me. I've just had a PM from birthday01 who is a new member as it was their first post and it just said 'Hi is this your thread' then there was a link to a moneysaving thread, which I stupidly clicked on but luckily it went to an error page. However it was only after I did it I thought I hope thats not dodgy:rolleyes: What do you think? Should I report it and if so how?
Thanks, soory for the hijack Hypno just thought it was a waste to start a new thread when there are so many people who can probably help on here.

Morning! KM, I've had the same post, and I checked what it went to before I opened it, but it *was* mse. Nothing happened, and I closed it pretty quickly..... I think I'll report it as a query - thats not something a genuine complete newbie is likely to do, send a query to at least two members, with a link in.
Sorry hypno! That sounds quite a nice day, actually - little bit of low cost shopping, then a few quiet hours to yourself. I quite fancy going out somewhere, even if its to a boot sale, but I can't be bothered :rotfl: oops!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've not had a similar PM, but it does sound a little strange to me - you can report it to the abuse team, but I am not entirely sure how as I have never done so.
If it is genuine and from a newbie, hopefully they will read this and try again.
If not - STAY AWAY SPAMMER!!!!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
