Melamine countertop cleaning advice

Options
Any ideas on what can get rid of stains on a white melamine kitchen countertop. Thought it was just a coffe stain but if it is, it's one hell of a stubborn g!t.

Also what's good for toilet descaling, seen somewhere that borax + lemon juice works!

For descaling the toilet I use neat vinegar. No scrubbing involved, just pour some in and leave overnight, then a quick wipe around the bowl with more vinegar in the morning and all limescale stains are gone.

I use a drop of neat bleach on a sponge and just wipe over mine, the marks seem to disappear like magic.

A coffee coloured stain? And stubborn? Are you sure it's not a burn?

I had a light grey melamine kitchen top in our first house. It was awful to clean and would get coffee rings etc on it all the time. I ended up ringing the cabinet maker and he told me to use toothpaste. Just put some on a damp scourer (not a heavy duty one) and clean it like this. Wash off with clean water. Worked a treat and didn't have to scrub much at all. Didn't damage the melamine either.

    Thanks for the tips people.

It's definitely a stain on the melamine not a burn! Seem to remember seeing other useful tips for toothpaste, even for cleaning fridges as mine has now got a bad smell etc.. It seems when one thing happens another ten occur simultaneously.

I wipe my melamime counters down daily with multi surface and once a week with neat bleach. For really stubburn stains soakm a cotton pad or rag with bleach and leave resting on the stained area for a couple of hours. Only do this for pale coloured tops cos i've found it can create a powdery bloom on my Mothers dark green melamime. HTH

  • To clean melamine countertops on a daily basis, all you need is dishwashing liquid, warm water and a microfiber cloth, but don't scrub it too hard for it might damage the countertop, because melamine is made from layers glued together, it is easier to damage the surface of the countertop. If you plan to renovate your kitchen countertop in the future I suggest you use quartz countertop. Quartz is king! In terms of quality, durability, functionality, aesthetics and versatility, it's always the top choice in the market today. I've read a comprehensive guide on this page about quartz countertop and find it very informative a well.
