Just to clarify - i don't want to go 100% veggy, and husband has meat at lunch every day anyway. A couple of meals a week without meat would help our pockets and possibly also our waistlines!0

Hubby has cauldron sausages in sausage stew... they taste really good are lower fat and have a nice firm texture - that seems to fool him
Also veggie mince (especially with a beef stock cube) made into a shep pie/lasagna (so it's a bit hidden) may be one to try.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I've always found an obsession with eating meat quite funny. You can survive without it.
I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat much meat because even expensive meat is actually too cheap, hence concerns about animal welfare and the quality (too fatty, hormone levels etc). It's really not healthy to eat too much of it either.Happy chappy0 -
I may not be much help, given my hubby is fine with whatever I cook, meat or not. I recall him being dubious about meat free meals, but he quickly changed his mind when he tried a good dahl, chick pea curry, bombay potato.....
If he's full and it was tasty he seems happy.... but he does know how little I spend on food too.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I made Cranks bible vegetarian Indian Biriani at the weekend, and being a carnivore indian take away lover I have to say it tasted better then anything I have ever had with meat in from the indian take away.
Once I got over the fallacy that a meal must include meat to become complete it really does open up a huge range of new options and meals. I now prefer bean chili to meat chili , the taste is far cleaner and I feel better for avoiding the animal fats.0 -
frozen bags of veggie mince are extremely useful as above - for lasagne, spag bol, shepherds pie. DD is a veggie so do her a panful of hers and we have the normal mince but they taste as good as each other and we sometimes have hers instead. We also all love Linda McCartney pies (frozen) as they are as good as a meat pie but no gristle or fat and my daughter also loves the frozen chicken shaped veggie bits that we use for fajitas or curry.0

Where do I find this recipe please?:T0 -
Have you tried Quorn? Also, Asda meat substitutes are apparently very meat like, especially their "chicken"0

Thats grounds for divorce!
Dont you realise that green stuff on the plate is mere garnish
The first few posts on here made me laugh - Just wondering whether my OH has joined MSE, not told me, and has posted the above...?? :rotfl:
My OH is exactly the same. If there's not meat, he won't eat it. The only thing I can get away with is jacket potatoes with beans & cheese and that's only fortnightly...! We do eat a lot of chicken and luckily he includes that in 'meat' but some men don't... I feel sorry for their wives..... :rolleyes:Official DFW Member 716 - Proud to be dealing with my debts0 -
