O2 PAYG - Calling To Other Networks

Both of my parents are on other networks and I need to call them quite a lot, but it's really expensive. I don't top up monthly, but does anyone know if there are any cheaper tariffs? According to the little book I have, it's 25p per minute.

  • Not on 02 PAYG. You could get one of these monthly bolt-ons though if you call them mainly from your home (it bases it on your location).

O2 Home 100 - £9.99 per month - 100 anynet and land line any time mins

    02 Home 250 - £4.99 per month - 250 off peak o2 and land line mins

Failing that you could move to Simplicity if it works out cheaper and you don't mind a credit check?

I don't use my phone that much, so contract isn't worth it.

O2 contract phones are usually unlocked - maybe it's the same with PAYG. If so, you could buy cheap PAYG sims for your parent's networks and swap them about. It maybe a bit fiddly but you would have calls from 8p a minute (T-mobile Mates rate), 15p (Orange Racoon) or 12p (3). The exception is Vodaphone who don't seem to have preferential rates for V-to-V calls (unless someone knows better?)

Try Tesco pay as you go.
Their Sim will work in your O2 handset as they use the same network.

Your pick 5 numbers to get for 10p per minute /5p per text (i.e. parents)
Also, if you top up with £15 per month, you get either 500 texts or 150 minutes to any network.

You can get a sim for free here

If I change networks, how would I go about keeping my number?

Call O2 and ask for a PAC.

Give this to whoever your moving to, and they will move it in 2 working days.
Tesco used to give £5 credit when you quoted port1 when giving them the code, if you are going with them. It's not on their website that I could see, but they might still do it.
