Block of flats No individual letter/post box No mail is going missing- Help

Options
Hi

Im really sorry if I have posted this in the wrong thread please move if so.

I live in a small block of flats (about 16 in total). Each are individually owned by different people, although most are rented out. A mangement company manages our building. I rent my flat from our private landlord.

Our block of flats is on a busy main road. No one has an individual mail box in the communual area & when our mail is delivered its just on the front mat for everyone to sort out. The main door is also left open quite a lot.

Anyway, I have had a lot of my parcels go missing recently that I know of. I had one from a department store that was left in the communual hallway where the parcel bag was ripped open & the item removed, leaving me with a ripped plastic bag. I have ordered numerous things from ebay & HMV which havent arrived. I also have not received any missed delivery cards.

Im anoyed about my parcels going missing, but what Im most scared about is identity theft as bank statements & utility bills all have their logo on the outside.

I know some people may be asking why the hell we chose to live in a place with no secure place for mail (Im asking myself the same) but we were desperate to move due to the noise from all night parties in our last flat.

I was told before I moved that there was a petition for a secure area for mail sent to the management company, but nothing has come of it. BTW these are classed as luxuary flats- what a joke.

I really am not sure what to do. Any advice would be great.

Enlist the help/co-operation of all the other flat owners and petition the management company. No other option, as far as I am aware.

There is a service from royal mail where they will hold your post and you can collect it from the sorting office yourself.

    Hi
    thanx for your replies.
The only thing about the sorting office that they have a limited number of hours that they are open & its usually while Im at work. I may still look into it though.

Do you think I should contact the police as it is theft?

You must collect it at least once every working week - which is Monday to Saturday. If you miss a week, they'll deliver it anyway.

Police? Depends what they've got to go on. If it's an opportunistic theft, then there's not a lot they can do without evidence and/or witnesses.

CCTV in the hallway? Individual locking postboxes on the wall?

All this requires the landlord to contact the management company though! Keep pushing it though, and perhaps write to the landlord and highlight the problem.

Can you put a notice up in the hallway reminding people to keep the door shut due to an increase in thefts?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

as a note... it might not be people from outside doing this...

(which mean CCTV could be a ggod option if that's the case, not to find out who this is, but for this not to happen in the first place!)

Who classed them as luxury flats? The concierge at the reception desk or the pubescent, spotty LA that punted you the property?

If the management company won't act on the petition to install separate letter boxes, could you ask permission to install your own postbox to the outside wall or perhaps in the front garden?

    This sort of thing?

Else it's Mail Collect. I thought most credit cards are sent by recorded /special delivery, unless the company believes you are in a safe address. Tell them it's not a safe postal address. You could arrange with the bank to collect your statements up direct from them or even elect for on-line ststements only. You could also choose a utility supplier that does on-line billing too - might save you a couple of bob as well

I have never received any of my credit/debit cards by recorded delivery. They all just landed on the door mat!
