Because do become sexually mature by then - although their bodies havent which is why a lot of vets advocate leaving it later.

I guess like my vet some are happy to do it at that age when they are starting to hump etc..

Its got noting to do with humping, humping will happen in castrated dogs who never humped before they were done

We had our dog "done" free of charge. Our local Dog Warden will happily give you a voucher to use for a dog/!!!!! to be done FOC.

Our little boy, who is now 2 and a half sometimes squats like a girl for a wee. Our girl gets that close to the ground that she ends up with a muddy tup tup!

Our Springer is 1 year old now - he hasn't been done and we have no plans to get him done at the moment.

He has been lifting his leg to wee for about a month now but hasn't yet humped anything (except, months ago, a giant schnauser called Colin who apparently every dog in the park has had a go at .. poor Colin:p ).

We have researched quite a bit on the health benefits of castration versus non-castration and our decision is not to - unless at some point in the future other factors lead us to reconsider (behavioural etc).

We decided that we would rather let him mature naturally and see how his character develops - I think we are lucky as he has a super nature, is very friendly and non-confrontational to other dogs - we were lucky with his socialisation with some excellent dogs in our local park who taught him his doggy language well

I have to say that I am involved in dog rescue. Every year 8000 unwanted dogs are put down as strays - all those 8000 were bred by someone for money or were accidents when an un-neutered dog got out and about.

Please consider the advantages of neutering.

If you are neutering please leave it as long as possible - at least till your dog is a year old. Give him as much time as possible to fully mature.Quite often once a dog gets past the teen stage they dont show any interest in b1tches in season so theres very little reason to get them done

Hmmm he's had me tossing and turning with him, and out at 4am this morning thinking he really needed to go, took another 10 mins before he widdled.

He whimpers very quietly, vet said he's fine, so it's attention time for the day

Thanks for asking yes he's lots better, back to his cheeky self, Tuesday he still had the shakes and a bit stubourn, but buy Tuesday night he was miles better.

I would like to take his buster collar off him now, but i keep catching him trying to have a lick at his non existent bits, so i think i need to leave it on longer, his stiches are not due out until a week today
