I noticed that Morrisons value tuna had gone from 185g to 170g at the weekend and also that their sun pat peanut butter had a big price crunch poster next to it stating that it was on offer at around £1.35 (can`t remember exact price) but i`ve been buying it at Wilko for less than 80p :D

It's funny though that now, with a list and meal plans, we actually spend less that we did this time last year with an extra mouth to feed. I'm shocked and annoyed at myself for not shopping like this before. At least i've learnt quickly and will continue to shop this way to trim as much as possible off of the supermarket profit sheets.

  • I've noticed this with packs of smoked salmon. Can't remember the prices because it's too pricey for me to buy but I think the packs used to be 454 g and are now more like 300g in both sainsbury and tesco.

I always check the price per 100g when buying anything. It's the best way to track changes.

I could have written this myself Rhysdad, i always see at least one ridiculous huge price hike whenever i go into the supermarket and it makes me so angry. There are always quite a few but also always one really big one.

    100g plain flour 2.3p
2 large free range eggs 25p
1/2 pint of whole milk 24p
salt and pepper to taste. 1p
electricity to cook same as with tasteless Aunt Bessie

    =52.3p

Makes enough for 12 large Yorkshire puddings that are cheaper, tastier and greener (no packaging, cardboard and aluminium foil)

And don't cite time as a factor, these take about 5 minutes to prepare.

I agree with you but... 6 large free range eggs in tesco are now £1.52 increasing the cost of the above recipe by 50% to 77p - so be careful where you buy your eggs from!

  • One I noticed a while ago was Pringles which chopped 30g of from 200g to 170g, kept same price. And I've just noticed Asda sausage rolls/cheese and onion rolls have gone from 6 in a pack to 5, again same price. Damn their oily hides.
