First class service from e7even

I don't very often check emails via e7even site, simply because they don't have an address book, but once in a while I do. Somehow not only had I forgotten the password, but I'd accidently provided an invalid alternative email address. So, after they'd tried to email my password unsuccessfully, they phoned me. All within 2/3 minutes. That's what I call service.

Hi
Glad to hear that E7even's customer services are good....unfortunately the same thing CANNOT be said about the quality of their broadband service. I recently cancelled my service (512Kbps) with them after getting poor speeds consistently. Lesson Learnt: Join them if you want cheap broadband only, but stay away from them if you want quality broadband as well....i learnt the hard way...they charged me £80 for cancelling. Well done E7even!!!Telabria Skylink 3Mbps

In E7's defence, ongoing peak-time speed problems seem to have been fixed - I've had no problems since the end of last week, and it all seems to be holding up OK now - great speeds even at peak evening times.

It's worth noting that other 'budget' ISPs have their problems, probably due to the fact that they are most probably running with little spare capacity. E7 are one of the cheapest ISPs, and I'm now paying less than I was for dial-up... less than £10 per month for unlimited broadband, including setup.
I agree that the support is really good, but the broadband service has been a problem over the last few weeks - hopefully all sorted out now...

Go to the link below, this will explain why i am anti-E7even:

For those of you thinking of joining a QUALITY and REASONABLY priced broadband supplier, i suggest someone like Metronet (they came high in Which? magazines ratings). I just don't want any newbies suffering the same fate i did with e7even. In fact i think e7even are the new "Bulldog Broadband"...which means its only a matter of time before they get reported to OFCOM.
Have a good day

I'm a member on ADSLguide's forum, even on there the improvements are being reported. If the service stays as it is now, then I'll be happy.
I'm sure MetroNet is very good and it's probably worth every penny if you require ultimate reliability. However, this site is primarily about moneysaving, and using e7 saves me money. Their broadband may not be perfect, but I don't think there is better alternative unless you are willing to pay a price premium.
If I switched to MetroNet it would cost me more than double the amount I pay now - I really couldn't justify it.0 -

I agree wholeheartedly. E7even are rubbish! Metronet does get good reports and their charges are very reasonable. I'm with F2S and they are good also, but E7even? I found them terrible and walked away. They certainly charged enough for cancelling and of course they can since they have your money and just keep as much as they want.
As for paul_h saying this is moneysaving, no it's not if you don't get value for money! KEEP CLEAR OF E7EVEN.0 -

...but when looking at value for money, one of the main considerations has to be cost. I pay less than I was ever paying for dial-up, and the service I receive is far better - even on E7 at their absolute worst, it's much faster.
E7's not perfect, speeds are yet again showing weakness at peak times. However, I'll never be a heavy downloader, or a gamer, or p2p user, so the service seems to work fine for me. Despite the half a day downtime I've had since I signed up with them, for which I received a free week in compensation, I would still say it offers value for money - I simply couldn't buy an unlimited dial-up connection from anyone else for the price, nevermind broadband.
I have accepted in a number of posts that if you want the absolute fastest speeds and total reliability, then E7 is not for you. I do think that some people have unrealistic expectations of a sub-£10pm provider - I have seen E7 regularly compared to other ISPs costing anywhere from £20pm to £50pm.
As for the cancellation charges, E7 charge a fixed 3 months penalty (for me, that's £30). Most people leaving an ISP in the first 12 months will have to pay more than this to leave, unless they paid extra for a monthly contract. Any deferred setup costs you will have had to repay to E7 are clawed back by all ISPs offering 'free' setup, if you do not complete a minimum term - this can be as long as 5 years with some ISPs!
For me, it works OK and it's cheap - I couldn't justify spending anymore when my current connection does what I need.0 -
As I have found, with E7 the price is attractive, but the service is not.
and just as an example of how slow my 1 Mbps connection really is, here is a speed test I have just done :
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=1fb7c06b1076c9537a11fb7c06b
A 1Meg connection coming in at 170 Kbps :-(
Personally, despite the price I would not recommend them to anyone.
I went for the their 1 Meg offer because although not a heavy internet user, when I do go online, I want to get things done ASAP. Some hope !
Cheers,
Steve.0 -

That is bad.
I'm only on 512Kbps and my speeds are better than that at peak evening times, typically around 350Kbps+. Daytime speeds are close to 500Kbps, so there's some congestion somewhere in the e7 system...
If e7 cannot sort the problem out, why not migrate? Surely it'll only cost you 3 months subs to leave?
If you took a free setup deal, you will have to pay the deferred setup cost, but you would have had to pay this with any ISP, either up front or subsidised within the monthly fee. E7 do the latter, hence the requirement to repay the fees - these fees are paid to BT Wholesale to set your connection up, and are never returnable. However, you would then be free to migrate into any ISP and you can look for one with a lower monthly cost, but no 'free' setup deals, such as adsl4less.
Incidentally, a close family member has just left PlusNet, and their 'free' setup deal ties you in for 5 years!0 -
I typically get around 300-400kbps on a 2mbps connection. The frustrating this is that I have only ever experienced slowness on E7even since I upgraded to 2mb from 512kb!
I appreciate that all networks can get congested at times, however E7even's network seems continually congested which would suggest it is over-subscribed. It is particularly galling then that they regularly announce new incentives to bring on more and more users.0 -
I assume the poor speeds you quote are peak speeds? You should be having no problems during the day, most users report good daytime speeds. The speeds you are quoting are similar to my peak speeds, obviously a much more serious problem on a 2Mbps connection than my 512Kbps connection - the best that BT can offer me. :wall:
The fact that we are getting similar speeds despite our different connection speeds does indeed indicate that the system is overloaded at peak times. I'm not sure that e7 is over-subscribed though, surely there has to be some defect in their systems. These problems seemed to happen suddenly, speeds previously were excellent - I would have though that a growing number of connections would have brought on a more gradual decline in service. I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't have conscripted a massive number of subscribers all at once?
One thing is certain, e7 will have to pull their finger out or they will continue to have a lot of unhappy 1-2Mbps customers. :think:0
